ABC News' Jonathan Karl was elected on Friday to be the new president of the White House Correspondents Association.

"Congratulations to Jonathan Karl of ABC News, elected today to be president of the White House Correspondents' Association in 2019-20," the group tweeted out Friday evening.

Karl has worked for ABC News since 2003, starting out as a senior foreign affairs correspondent and has followed beats including the Pentagon. Before joining ABC News, he worked as a congressional correspondent for CNN, according to his official biography.

He will succeed Jeff Mason of Reuters, who offered congratulations on Twitter.
