The Golf Magazine columnist who wrote an article alleging President Trump referred to the White House as a "dump" is standing by his story after both Trump and the White House claim the quote is false.

Alan Shipnuck said that eight or nine members and staffers heard the president call the White House a "real dump," while speaking to members of his golf club in Bedminster, N.J.

Shipnuck told Golf Magazine that the White House director of strategic communications Hope Hicks called him on Wednesday to demand the "lie" be retracted.

"The week of the U.S. Women's Open, I heard the same story told by two or three different other sources," Shipnuck added. "They definitely don't waste any time trying to be charming or friendly, these people in the White House communications department."

After the report surfaced, Trump tweeted on Wednesday evening that it was "totally untrue."
