Keith Olbermann, the liberal former MSNBC host, claimed in a new interview that President Trump is, at least, partially to blame for a deal falling with CNN.

Olbermann told the New York Times in a profile published Monday that he was in talks with CNN about returning to TV until Trump intervened.

"There was an offer, then there wasn't an offer, then there was an offer," he said. "And Trump didn't like me, and apparently exerted influence on that."

A spokesperson for CNN told the Times that Olbermann's conversations were actually with CNN's sister channel HLN, more than a year ago and that Trump had no involvement.

Olbermann, whose employment with MSNBC and then the now defunct Current TV both ended on bitter terms, now hosts five minute-long online political commentaries for GQ magazine.

During the 2016 campaign, Olbermann emerged as a prominent liberal critic of Trump.
