ROSS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — West Michigan's W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is holding open houses this week, with discounts on books and other gifts.

The open houses are Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Michigan State University facility is in Kalamazoo County's Ross Township, northeast of Kalamazoo near Gull Lake.

Michigan state says visitors can get 30 percent off select books by Michigan authors and 15 percent off all fair trade and a variety of other items.

The 180-acre sanctuary protects native habitat for migratory and resident birds and conducts research, education and outreach programs. Kellogg Co. pioneer created it in 1927 as a refuge for Canada geese and other migratory birds.
