Last week, the State Department announced that Secretary of State John Kerry would donate $9,175 from his $183,500 State Department salary to a State Department charity for their employees as a sign of solidarity with furloughed workers due to the sequester cuts.

As a Senator, Kerry was one of the richest members of Congress as the former Senator from Massachusetts has assets of $198.65 million, according to his 2012 Senate financial disclosure form.

Kerry’s $9,175 donation from his State Department salary is about 0.0046 percent of his annual net worth.
