McCarthy, R-Calif., said on CBS’ “Face The Nation” Sunday tax rates for the middle class are going to be cut and no one in the middle class will miss out on the party.
“Look, we are cutting rates. We’re not raising rates, we’re cutting rates. This is a tax cut,” he said.
When host John Dickerson cut in to clarify if that means everyone who’s in the middle class would get a tax cut, McCarthy said, “Yes.”
“It is a fact that if you are — the first $55,000 you earn for family of four will not pay any tax. It is a tax cut for the middle class,” he said.
Dickerson countered that some tax breaks for middle income folks are ending in 2023 and 2024 and that could end up raising taxes on some individuals.
McCarthy said that’s not the case.
“We've made most everything permanent. Because of the rules of the Senate, we could not make all of those permanent as we go forward,” McCarthy said. “But I will promise you this: As the growth comes in, those will be kept. They will not go away within the tax credit in the sixth and seventh year.”
