First it was weekly updates on Robert Griffin III (which, of course, have not ended and won't until the games begin). Prepare yourself for the same treatment regarding injured Lakers star Kobe Bryant. And prepare yourself, too, for comments like this one Bryant sent out via Twitter on Sunday:
"This is what my friend/agent sends me this am. Shiesh! #kobe #motivationsunday I'm keeping track of all doubters and haters #mambamentality"
What his friend/agent had sent was a Los Angeles Times article in which some analysts doubted he would be the same upon his return (or the projected six-to-nine-month recovery period). Not sure why they would think -- or at least wonder -- that a 34-year-old coming off a torn Achilles wouldn't be the same. How dare they.
But athletes like Griffin and Bryant share a drive that often leads them to turn negative comments into motivational fuel. Maybe Bryant won't come back the same. But if there's any older player who can return and still play at a high level, anyone want to bet against him?
