Police in Michigan are investigating whether a Family Dollar store security guard was shot and killed over a dispute about a customer not wearing a mask.
Officers responded Friday afternoon to the store in Flint, Michigan, finding a security guard had been shot in the head in the doorway, according to reports.
The guard, 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn, was taken to the hospital where he died. He is survived by his eight children and wife.
Police are still searching for suspects.
Munerlyn “was a hard working, father and husband who lost his life while doing his job securing the place of business and asking all customers to wear a mask for our own safety as well as others,” says a GoFundMe page that was started for his family.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has mandated masks in any enclosed public space as part of efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
