Illegal immigrants viewed as future cannon fodder

Re: "How to tell if the amnesty fix is in," June 2

Traditionally the "party of business," today's Republican Party consists primarily of traditional, religious and social conservatives and militaristic neoconservatives, from whom many moderate business types and libertarians feel increasingly alienated.

The immigration bill is anathema to traditional conservatives who cannot fathom mainstreaming 6 million more workers into an economy of persistently high unemployment and falling inflation-adjusted pay.

But it seems to be drawing support from militaristic neoconservatives such as Sen. John McCain, who desire an endless supply of working-class people who are strongly motivated to join the military to fight future wars and spread American influence.

Many former illegal immigrants would likely do so to prove their bona fides to their new country and ease their acceptance into a society reluctant to legalize them.

Obama should practice what he preaches

Re: "Obama addressing Naval Academy graduates 2nd time," May 24

During the closing remarks ofhis speech at the U.S. Naval Academy, President Obama advised the graduating class to "speak with honesty and demand accountability."

The president should demonstrate that he really believes what he says by removing the executive privilege he invoked so that all data can be revealed about the Fast and Furious gun-running operation to Mexican drug cartels that resulted in the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

He should also support the appointment of an independent counsel to look into the IRS for politically intimidating conservative groups, and order all administration officials who have either knowledge or involvement in the Benghazi and AP scandals to come clean and testify before Congress and other investigative units.

They must tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and all those responsible should be held accountable to prevent a recurrence.

IRS scandal is just the tip of the iceberg

Alabama Tea Party leader Becky Gerritson said it all Tuesday when she told Congress: "I want to protect and preserve the America I grew up in, the America that people cross oceans and risk their lives to become part of it... "

I am one of those who lived under the terror, intellectual mediocrity and hopeless "equality in poverty" of real socialism. I came to America for freedom.

What the IRS is doing now is only the tip of an iceberg. This is what a one-party, repressive Marxist-Leninist machine does to anybody who dares to think, say or do anything against the "progressive" system in power. Next are the gulags.

You can be the judge of the old saying, "Every nation deserves the government it has." But in my humble opinion, what is happening here now is a direct result of the presidential elections of 2008 and 2012.

I really wonder what this great country will look like by 2016.
