Americans are no longer united

How would President Obama respond to the secession movement extant in the U.S.?

I suspect that he would send troops to quell the insurrection to ensure that the U.S. stays united despite the fact that certain hard-working people do not want to have anything to do with his presidency because of his economic illiteracy and socialist proclivities.

President Lincoln ended any discussion of the right of the people to secede at the end of a bayonet. I suspect the same result would occur now. So those who want to secede should not take action against the president's sovereign authority. Just live your life, raise your kids, go to work each day and pay taxes you don't owe.

But know that it is wrong to prevent people with decidedly different views, tastes and preferences from having their own form of government and allowing those who elected the Clintons and Obamas of the world from having theirs.

Obviously, there is no UnitedStates of America anymore.

Obama flunked Benghazi test

Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton presciently questioned the intestinal fortitude of her opponent when confronted with the 3 a.m. telephone call. For the self-proclaimed Hero of Abbottabad, that test came at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2012.

Six hours later, former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were valiantly fighting for their lives and the lives of the surviving consulate personnel, with underwhelming reinforcements. Heaven forbid that we should injure some innocent spectators who were merely there rooting for the home team.

The failure to mount a full-fledged rescue operation was in spite of the fact that we had military assets positioned throughout the Mediterranean region. Meanwhile, the president of the most powerful country on Earth slept soundly in preparation for a hard day of campaigning in Las Vegas.

Even the peanut farmer made a legitimate attempt to rescue our embassy personnel when they were held hostage in Tehran. Our feckless commander in chief should be court martialed for dereliction of duty and cowardice in the face of the enemy.

Taxing job creators risks another recession

In his book,"The Signal and the Noise," Nate Silver explains the failure of the rating agencies to predict the possibility of cascading defaults around America. The ratings agencies gave many collateralized debt obligations AAA ratings even though their actual default rates were more than 200 times higher than the S&P predicted.

Has President Obama calculated the probability that we will have a second recession if we increase taxes on job creators after a housing bubble, a housing bust,a financial crisis and a period of recession around the world?

Every time someone says we should increase taxes on job creators, we should ask them to give us the predicted risk for a second recession. Is it 10 percent or 50 percent? Give us a number so that we can hold them accountable if their policies turn out to be wrong.
