Metro to expand circulation through Adams Morgan

Metro is moving forward with its plans to expand the popular D.C. Circulator bus into Adams Morgan.
The Circulator will travel between Woodley Park and the McPherson Square Metro Station, with stops in Adams Morgan, 14th Street and U Street.
It would replace Metrobus’ short route 98, which runs between Adams Morgan and U Street.
“We’re chugging right along. The buses have already all been ordered and will be arriving in March, so this is a go,” said Ward 1 D.C. Council Member and Metro board member Jim Graham.
“We think that the new bus route will be far more effective. Rather than being an isolated line like Metrobus 98, it will connect Woodley Park, Adams Morgan, the Columbia Heights retail center, K Street and U Street,” he said.
The new route will cost $1, cheaper than the Metro cash charge of $1.35, said John Lisle, spokesman for the D.C. Department of Transportation, which funds route 98. The existing Route 98 costs 25 cents.
The Circulator has been tremendously successful since it began in 2005. The system has carried nearly 7 million riders and provides connections to areas of the city that are difficult to reach by Metrobus or Metrorail without multiple transfers.
Metro will hold a public hearing Nov. 19 about canceling route 98. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Metro’s headquarters at 600 Fifth St. NW.
