Metro crash victim: Dennis Hawkins, 64

June 23, 2009

Hawkins, 64, had left for the day from work, the Whittier Education Center in Northwest, where he was a data entry clerk.

Loretta Smith said Hawkins was a bachelor and “a marvelous, wonderful man,” she said. “He was a church-going man.”

Smith said she worked at the desk next to Hawkins for five years.

“The last thing he said to me was ‘See you tomorrow, Smitty!’” she said.

I have worked with Mr. Hawkins for several year. I will miss him dearly. He was debonair, intelligent with a keen sense of humor. My thoughts are with his family.

My uncle was an amazing man. Im going to miss eating BBQ chips and Oreos with him. I will miss him and I will always love him and every time I step on a baseball field I will honor him by doing my best and giving it my all.

Mr. Hawkins was my sons 3rd grade teacher. He was an awesome instructor. I heard his name and thought nothing of it. I was absolutely stunned when I saw the picture next to his name and it hit me really hard. I am really going to miss him. My family and I would Webb Elementary School has an angel watching over them. I was looking at my sons old report card and I chuckled. Fly and Soar Mr. Hawkins. I knew you were an angel then and you're an angel for real now. Keep your eyes on your students. They love you. I do too!! *hears his laugh lol.. it was the funniest* :-)
