Metro crash victim: LaVonda King, 23

King, 23, was heading to pick up her two sons up from daycare when she was killed, close friend Danita Delaney said.

King was engaged, Delaney said, and just three weeks ago had bought a hair salon in  Forestville and named it “LaVonda’s House of Beauty.”

“After she established herself as a cosmetologist she also wanted to buy a car,” Delaney said. “She was trying to make a better life for her family.”

King spoke to her mother on the phone right before she boarded the train.

“I liked the fact that she was very prim and proper, very ladylike,” Delaney remembered.

I never personally met Nikki but I used to ride the bus with her and her sons in the morning and evenings plus I just found out that one of her cousins work with me. I used to see Nikki and her sons all of the time and I used to think to myself (and actually said to her one time) those boys are so cute and they have so much energy, how do you do it? She responded and said "I know, they are full of energy" and we laughed and watched the kids run around the bus stop and I would think to myself she looks like a determined and caring mother. She was so beautiful. I admired that about her and I didn't even know her. It is so sad to know that Nikki is gone so young but I do wish her family and friends comfort and love in this hard time and I'm sure Nikki is resting and you all will meet again soon! God Bless.
