Police raid home of Fox News employee, charge him with possession of child porn

Bruns

A Fox News Channel producer was charged with possession of child pornography after authorities searched his Dupont Circle-area apartment, according to documents filed in federal court Tuesday.

Aaron Bruns, 29, a Fox News “embed” during the 2008 presidential election, was ordered to remain in jail Tuesday until his preliminary hearing Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Alan Kay. This is at least the second time that Bruns has had a brush with the law over child pornography allegations.

On Jan. 23, members of the FBI and D.C. police child exploitation task force raided Bruns’ apartment after undercover investigators in Pennsylvania found evidence that Bruns was offering to share child pornography over the Internet. Bruns was present when police executed the search warrant.

Police said they found a laptop computer with numerous still images and at least five movie files depicting children under the age of 10 being sexually abused by adult men and women, according to police documents. Images showed the children, some as young as 3 years old, being tied up and raped, court filings said.

Bruns, who worked out of the Fox News’ Washington, D.C., bureau, was one of the reporters who followed candidates with a video camera on the campaign trail. Bruns covered then-Sen. Hillary Clinton’s run for the Democratic nomination. More recently, he covered Vice President Joseph Biden Jr.’s farewell speeches to the Senate.

A Fox News spokeswoman did not immediately return phone calls for comment.

This was not Bruns’ first arrest on child pornography charges. In 1999, Bruns dropped out of  University of Michigan after the Florida Bureau of Investigations informed the university that an individual was using the school computer system to trade images of children involved in sexual situations.

Detectives seized Bruns’ computer from his dorm room and found thousands of pornographic images stored on it, many of them of children in explicit sexual situations, according to the school paper. Burns was arrested on charges of distributing child pornography.

The courts records in the 1999 case were not available and it was unclear how that case was adjudicated.

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me. If the accusations are true, then we are looking at someone who needs some serious help. I would love to see what the records of the '99 case hold, at least in terms of adjudication as well as if he was required to attend therapy sessions to deal with the desire to watch/distribute child pornography. My guess, no jail time, minimal probation (if any) and he was allowed to expunge his record. Hopefully Fox will be fair and balanced and cover the story, but that would be expecting oh so much from the journalism world.

I just wish they could nail the adults in the pics/movies. Those are the worst of the worst to do those kinds of things to children. Downloading and watching is horrible enough, but being the person to do such a horrible thing to a kid is deplorable. Disgusting. Horrific. Depraved. Just plain sick. I'd fry them all if I could.

What is a tax force? In the 3rd paragraph there is some mention of this tax force raid. Just curious.

I suspect it's common practice among the news industry to not cover stories that directly cast aspersions on their own employees, possibly for legal reasons. (i.e. they don't want to leave themselves open to a claim of unfair employment practices, even frivolous ones, if the case somehow gets dismissed, thrown out, or the guy goes to trial and is found not guilty.) I seem to recall that the New York Times wasn't exactly trumpeting their Jayson Blair problems on their front pages either.

If they had put him where he belonged in college none of this would have happened. When will this society treat predators as the criminals they are.

Sarge, since Fox News is always ready to use a large brush to cast aspersions, I think it only fitting that they are judged by the character of their employees. After all, if you can slander the president based on his picks for employees, why can't I slander Fox News for their employees. And don't tell me it's not the same thing - it is exactly the same thing. Some of the president's employees picks seem to have a penchant for tax issues - Fox employees have trouble with the truth

If he is guilty of this crime, I hope that his fame helps to cast a larger light on the monsters in this world who perpetuate this kind of thing. Children are being trafficked and sold into slavery just for the perverted whims of those who can afford to subjicate them to a life such as that. For the life of me, I can NOT understand the need to use children as sexual objects. What kind of soul must one have to derive pleasure from this?? I wish there were truly a way to rid the world of these people once and for all. Their kind is, arguably, the worst kind of offender and the suffering of these children doesn't end once they've reached an age where they no longer appeal to these deviants. They are left hollow and scarred for the rest of their lives, and the cycle lives on for another day. There really needs to be much stiffer penalties for people who engage in this kind of behavior, not only here but worldwide.

We are from the same town this young man grew up in and the first time the story was that he had found away to make alot of money during college, that none of the porn they found was of interest to him. I just hope that he has never had the opportunity to act on this and hurt an innocent child. He needs some time in prison...

Tragic

Feb 11, 2009

Most pedophiles were once abused as children themselves. So as sick and perverted as this may seem to you, understanding and help are what's truly needed here. Bruns was caught merely trafficing in material most of us would find gross and not actually abusing any minors, thank God. The real tragedy here is that he probably didn;t receive any counsleing the first time he was caught.

This is really sad. I beleive it is a real sickness that is spreading in our culture. I am sure he is one in a million that is guilty of this. This is how children end up missing, molested and dead. The computer and the person with a sickness is the beginning of all of this. Why cant the internet be regulated to not allow porn of children even exist? Punish the Creators of it, the watchers and the sellers.

You say this man did this in college, So to get a job with Fox 5,there is no background check. He needs serious help, It seems to be a addiction because he is careless and wanted to be caught. The third time it might be your child. (Staff of channel 5 children or the Presidents) Children or our furture.

There is no excuse for "merely trafficking" in a child's torture and pain. After having been caught before and to take the chance again... he's got a real taste for it. He got CAUGHT with videos and pictures... It makes me wonder what he didn't get caught doing. I hope they lock him up for a very long time.
