Va town prepares for firefighters' funerals

Associated Press
07/29/10 8:15 AM EDT

ROCKY MOUNT, VA. — More than 1,000 mourners are expected to attend the funerals for two Rocky Mount volunteer firefighters who were killed in a traffic accident while responding to a call.

Funerals for 59-year-old Rocky Mount Fire Chief Posey Dillon and 67-year-old firefighter William "Danny" Altice will be held Friday at two local churches.

Franklin County Fire Marshal Bennie Russell says numerous fire departments in Virginia and other states plan to send representatives.

Public safety leaders, town officials, funeral home directors and others met Wednesday to plan for traffic, parking and other details.

Dillon and Altice were killed Monday when their fire truck was hit by an SUV, flipped three times and landed on top of a car.
