DC leads nation in percentage of jobs lost

WASHINGTON — Labor Department statistics show the District of Columbia leads the nation in the percentage of jobs lost in September relative to population.
Figures released Wednesday show New York lost the most jobs last month. But D.C. had the highest percentage of jobs lost relative to population. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says Washington lost 10,000 jobs from August to September.
The D.C. unemployment rate has shot up to 11.4 percent. The national unemployment rate is 9.8 percent.
In Maryland, the jobless rate is 7.2 percent, and in Virginia unemployment is at 6.7 percent.
Michigan reported the nation's highest unemployment rate at 15.3 percent.
