Md. buys $1 million in security equipment

TOWSON, MD. — Maryland's corrections officials have bought about $1.2 million in new security equipment.
Protective vests, gate entry scanners, x-ray machines and chairs designed to detect hidden contraband have been purchased by the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
The equipment includes 24 BOSS chairs, scanners that can detect contraband metal objects hidden inside the body. They cost $178,000 each.
The department also has purchased more than 1,000 stab, ballistic and combination vests. It also has acquired 18 new x-ray scanners and 12 new SecureView entry scanners, which show where suspicious items may be located on clothing.
