The mayor of London said on Sunday that the country "shouldn't be rolling out the red carpet" for President Trump's visit this year because of his "cruel" immigration policies.

Sadiq Khan, the first Muslim mayor of London, made the remarks just one day before British legislators are planning to debate whether or not the planned state visit should be downgraded, the Associated Press reported. Khan specifically said the U.S. president should not get the VIP perks typically associated with a state visit because of his executive order to "ban" people from seven countries from coming to the U.S. as well as his blocking of refugees.

More than one million people signed an online petition to prevent Trump from making the state visit. While Trump will not be uninvited, Parliament will discuss the petition because it surpassed the 100,000 signature threshold, USA Today reported.

A state visit to the United Kingdom typically includes much pageantry and a stay at Buckingham Palace, according to the report.
