Here are the on-again, off-again couples who caught our attention (and caused our eyes to roll) during the year.
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
For being so young, these two have been together for a surprisingly long time. After several years of dating, Selena Gomez said goodbye to her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, in November.
Sources said she had trust issues with her man (JB had been hanging out with a Victoria's Secret model a lot at the time).
But these two had broken up before. And like before, they seemed to make up in short time. They had a very public fight but were packing on the PDA just a week after their breakup and have been spotted together several times since.
Prediction for 2013: Young love can't last forever. These two will both be moving on soon.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
Poor Robert Pattinson. After Kristen Stewart, his girlfriend of three years, cheated on him very publicly, he still had to go all over the world with her to promote their latest film together.
In July, Kristen was busted getting hot and heavy with her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders -- who is married with two kids. Kristen apologized (a lot) and both moved out of the house they shared.
In September, it was reported that the two had a "dramatic makeup" and were on the road to reconciliation.
By the end of September, they were again living together.
In October, the two were reportedly "attached at the hip" again and all had been forgiven.
They've stayed low-key as a couple since the cheating scandal, but all reports indicate that they are very much back on.
Prediction for 2013: Maybe they reunited for love, or maybe it was to promote the last "Twilight" film. Either way, it looks like they're going strong for now. So what's one more year?
Katy Perry and John Mayer
If only Katy Perry had known John Mayer was trouble when he walked in ...
There were rumors everywhere late summer that these two were an item. And in August, they were spotted on a date in Los Angeles (Katy had been recently divorced from funnyman Russell Brand).
A few weeks later, they reportedly broke up, and a few weeks after that, they were back on.
About a month later, they reportedly broke up, and a few weeks after that, they were back on.
Another breakup rumor or two later, the pair appears to still be going strong.
Prediction for 2013: No chance!
Chris Brown and Rihanna
After beating up then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammys, Chris Brown was charged with felony assault and ordered to stay away from the Barbadian beauty.
But in 2012, the former couple collaborated on two songs and were rumored to be hooking up behind Karrueche Tran's back -- Chris' girlfriend for a couple years.
Then in October, Chris reportedly dumped Karrueche (although they, too, have been spotted together since). Instagram photos of Chris and Rihanna looking very much like a couple were posted, tweets were sent out alluding to them being together, and they were even spotted kissing in public a few times. These two genuinely don't seem to know how to quit each other.
Prediction for 2013: We hope not, but after four years, who knows?
Kobe and Vanessa Bryant
Lakers star Kobe Bryant and his supposedly estranged wife, Vanessa, were photographed kissing on Valentines day just two months after she filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage.
Vanessa stood by her man in 2003 when he was accused of rape and after he admitted to cheating on her. Rumor was, Kobe cheated on Vanessa a lot.
But after 10 years of marriage with no pre-nup, a spouse is likely to still get half of all assets. So maybe Vanessa was just getting hers after being cheated on. But they were spotted out together often throughout 2012 (especially around the Olympics).
Prediction for 2013: Not sure anyone can predict this one.
Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris
Hugh Hefner, 86, and Playmate Crystal Harris, 26, (insert eye roll here) were all ready to walk down the aisle in 2011 when Crystal got cold feet and dumped her (much) older man. Now, Hef and his runaway bride are engaged again and set to wed on New Year's Eve.
Prediction for 2013: Does it matter? There's no chance this relationship is for real.
