Our weekly look at the loudest screech from the mainstream media features Today show co-host Ann Curry who last week used a liberal group's talking points to discredit Rep. Paul Ryan's 2013 budget. Citing a Center on Budget and Policy Priorities study critical of the Ryan budget, she said, “Where is the empathy in this budget?... Do you acknowledge that poor people will suffer under this budget, that you have shown a lack of empathy to poor people in this budget?”

Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our pick: “Ryan’s budget blueprint would increase Medicare spending by 70% over the next 10 years and Medicaid and other health spending by 31%. Curry epitomized how TV news is an impediment to fiscal sanity: Suggest a slight reduction in the rate of spending increases and TV hosts pile on the emotional demagoguery to paint you as an ogre.”

Rating: Five out of five screams.
