A 25-year-old man has been charged in the tossing of an explosive device that started a fire at a Lorton sandwich shop.

Fairfax County police said Horace Thompson, of no fixed address, was arrested Thursday after he was released from the Washington Burn Center.

He will be extradited to Fairfax County, where authorities say they will formally charge him with arson of an occupied building and aggravated malicious wounding for the Feb. 6 explosion at the Subshop Eats in the 9500 block of Richmond Highway, police said.

Police said a man threw an explosive device into the restaurant and fled.

The explosion and fire injured the owner of the restaurant.

The building took on about at $100,000 in damages, according to authorities.

A police spokeswoman said she did not know if Thompson had a previous connection to the sandwich shop.
