An Alexandria man whose vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Arlington has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, officials said.

Farhan Mohammad Khan, 21, was taken into custody Wednesday, according to Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. If convicted, Kahn faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Khan was driving northbound on North Glebe Road on Christmas Eve when he ran a red light and struck another vehicle at the intersection with North Randolph Street, officials said. Khan's car then spun out of control and struck 30-year-old Shabnam Motahhar-Tehrani, who was standing on the sidewalk.

Motahhar-Tehrani, of Nokesville, died at a hospital a few hours after the incident.
