A man was shot during a robbery in Arlington, officials said.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Arlington Ridge Road near South Lang Street. The victim told police that he was walking home when a man approached him, demanded money and shot him in the leg. The robber fled the scene on foot with some of the victim's money, Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Sternbeck said. Police searched for the shooter, described as a man wearing a dark hoodie, but they were unable to locate him.

The shooting took place near Gunston Middle School and Oakridge Elementary School. There were community activities being held at the schools at the time of the incident, and the buildings were secured after the shooting.
