Law enforcement officials are looking for a Fredericksburg man in connection with the double-slaying of an elderly Fauquier County couple.

Sheriff's deputies said John Wesley Jeffries, 60, is a person of interest in the killing of Nelson Slack, 80, and his wife Ethel Slack, 74, over the weekend in Fredericksburg.

Deputies checked on the couple around 11 a.m. Sunday after they did not show up for church and had not been heard from in 24 hours.

Police found the husband and wife dead inside their residence. Both suffered trauma to the upper body.

Deputies found an abandoned vehicle belonging to Jeffries nearby the residence, and the couple's vehicle in an area known to be frequented by Jeffries, deputies said.

Jeffries is a white male, 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds with balding, gray hair and blue eyes. He is known to wear a mustache and goatee.

Jeffries, who is a sex offender, is considered armed and dangerous, deputies said.

Anyone coming into contact with him should immediately contact 911.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office at 540-347-3300 or the Fauquier County Crime Solvers.
