House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows told the Values Voter Summit Friday that President Trump deserves praise for working hard on conservative agenda items, and said unsupportive Republicans need to be booted from Congress.
"He works until 1 o'clock in the morning. He goes to sleep for a few hours, he gets up at 5:30 or 6 in the morning," the North Carolina Republican said of Trump at a Washington hotel ballroom.
"He is willing to work harder than anybody else, we should do the same. We should help this president out," the three-term congressman said.
Meadows singled out for praise Trump's nomination of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch and the fact that "he has rolled back all kinds of regulations."
Meadows, whose caucus is known for taking a hard line on various congressional negotiations, received significant applause for criticizing other Republican lawmakers.
"We have some members who are duds who have been left in the chamber too long," he said.
