Star anchor Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News for NBC News.

Kelly, who hosts her own prime-time show on Fox, is heading to NBC to host a daytime news program, a Sunday night show and participate in special programming.

"Megyn is an exceptional journalist and news anchor, who has had an extraordinary career," NBC News chief Andrew Lack said in a statement confirming the news. "She's demonstrated tremendous skill and poise, and we're lucky to have her."

In a post on her Facebook page, Kelly also made the move official.

"Over a dozen years ago I started at Fox News in a job that would change my life," she said. "Now, I have decided to end my time at [Fox], incredibly enriched for the experiences I've had."

Kelly added, "While I will greatly miss my colleagues at Fox, I am delighted to be joining the NBC News family and taking on a new challenge."

Kelly's departure comes after months of her publicly stating that she was considering a move and after an election year that saw her at the center of an uncomfortable feud with then-Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The move will upset Fox's prime-time schedule, which has seen few changes since the cable channel launched in 1996. Kelly has been with Fox for 12 years, first reporting on Washington, then hosting a daytime show before she got her prime-time "Kelly File" program.

"We thank Megyn Kelly for her 12 years of contributions to Fox News," said a statement from Rupert Murdoch, whose company owns Fox News. "We hope she enjoys tremendous success in her career and wish her and her family all the best."
