Metro Transit Police are looking for an auto theft suspect.
Police say around 7:10 a.m. on Saturday a black male stole a vehicle from Metro's Addison Road Station. Police then tracked the car to the parking lot of a shopping center on Van Dorn Street in Alexandria through an electronic device was in the car when it was taken, WMATA spokeswoman Caroline Lukas said. The suspect was in the car as an officer approached and began to drive away, dragging the officer for a short distance. The officer then fired at the car with his gun.
The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle. He then abandoned it on a ramp leading to the Capital Beltway from Van Dorn Street and fled on foot.
Metro Transit Police, as well as police from Alexandria, Fairfax County and Virginia State Police are tracking the suspect at this time.
He is described as a black male, mid-to-late 40s, 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a bald head, facial hair, glasses, black jeans and a black t-shirt. Police also said he has a possible "growth" on the side of his neck similar to an Adam's apple.
The officer involved was not seriously injured.
