Days after announcing another run for the House of Representatives, former Rep. Michael Grimm from Staten Island posted a picture on Twitter of himself with former White House chief strategist, Steve Bannon.

"Game on! #MAGA," Grimm said to accompany the picture. "MAGA" is a reference to Trump's campaign slogan, "make America great again."

Grimm resigned in late 2014 after being charged with federal tax evasion, fraud and perjury. He then served a prison term that began in September 2015 and ended in May 2016.

"I believe that I will not be judged by my transgressions, but how I rebound in spite of them," Grimm told supporters Sunday.

"I know that my leadership is still sorely needed right here in Staten Island, in Brooklyn and in Washington, where the swamp still needs to be drained," he added.

Grimm will attempt to regain his old seat from incumbent Rep. Dan Donovan, R-N.Y., in 2018 during the primary.

Meanwhile, Bannon has been meeting with Republican donors, following the Alabama special election where Roy Moore defeated Sen. Luther Strange, who was backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and President Trump, in a GOP primary runoff election.

Bannon said he plans to implement a similar strategy to future GOP primaries in 2018 to undermine the efforts of the GOP establishment and promote Trump's populist agenda.

Grimm is an avid Trump supporter and has hired former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo to work on his campaign.
