WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is scheduled next week to present a significant community service award to 10 U.S. institutions including an Illinois library.

The Waukegan Public Library will be honored at a presentation Wednesday in the East Room at the White House.

The library is on the list of winners of the 2013 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. It's the nation's highest honor for museums and libraries for service to the community. It celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families and communities.

The Waukegan library is being honored for its literacy programs, including a conversational English program for Spanish speakers.

Other honorees include the Boston Children's Museum, the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, Miss., and the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, Calif.
