Mitt Romney, who is considering running for retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch's seat in Utah, was diagnosed and successfully treated for prostate cancer this past summer, a spokesman confirmed to the Washington Examiner Monday afternoon.

"Last year, Governor Mitt Romney was diagnosed with slow-growing prostate cancer. The cancer was removed surgically and found not to have spread beyond the prostate," an aide to Romney said in a statement.

Romney has not indicated if he intends to pursue a Senate seat, but did change his Twitter account to say he lives in Utah, not Massachusetts.

Trump called Romney, who was the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, and encouraged him to run for Hatch's seat.
