A strong majority of Republican voters in Alabama say the allegations against U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore are false, according to a new poll.

A CBS poll released Sunday said 71 percent of likely GOP voters in Alabama do not believe the allegations that Moore pursued teenage girls when he was an adult. One of the four women who have accused Moore of pursuing them said he groped her when she was 14 years old and he was 32.

An even bigger majority, 88 percent, said they believe the news media are behind the allegations, most of which were reported first by the Washington Post.

The poll showed that Moore is leading his opponent, Democrat Doug Jones, 49 to 43 percent.
