1. FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOOD HANGOUT

The National Zoo! My best friend, her daughter and my son (who are both living with autism) and I have a blast walking through the zoo on a weekday afternoon. We get a quick bite at the Mane Restaurant (located by the Kids' Farm) and head up the hill toward Connecticut Avenue. We get fresh air and exercise.

2. BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION

Walking, but I am in my car most of the time either taking my son to therapeutic activities or doing something for DCAP.

3. FAVORITE LOCAL SPORTS EVENT

The Washington Nationals. ... Hey, they are one of DCAP's community partners! Besides, baseball is America's pastime.

4. BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC

Can't tell you! I very rarely get out, but my co-workers are telling me that the Hamilton is the place to be.

5. BEST PLACE FOR OUT-OF-TOWN VISITORS

A pedicab! My son and I went for a tour this spring at night, and it was great seeing all the monuments, museums and the U.S. Capitol lit up. It is a reminder of how beautiful D.C. is. We will definitely be doing this again in the fall!

6. FAVORITE MUSEUM

The National Portrait Gallery

7. MOST ROMANTIC SPOT

Any trail in Rock Creek Park by the water ...

8. FAVORITE WAY TO SPEND A LAZY SUNDAY

Lazy Sunday. What's that? Sometime I work on Sunday mornings. If I'm lucky, and I am off from work, I get to sleep in until 7 a.m. (I wake up at 4:30 a.m. for work), then my son and I may head to the National Zoo before it gets too crowded. (Crowds can be a nightmare for children with autism, as they can get overstimulated by the environment.) We might end up at Candy Cane Park. We may end up at the pool. (Yes, we go year-round, as swimming is a great source of sensory input for my son.)

9. FAVORITE RESTAURANT

Eggspectation in Downtown Silver Spring is our favorite! It is kid-friendly, and the staff know my family.

10. BEST RETREAT OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY

The Pearl Spa in Maple Lawn, Md.

11. BEST RETREAT INSIDE THE BELTWAY

Rock Creek Park

12. BEST PLACE FOR LATE-NIGHT EATS

Late-night eats for me are few and far between with my work schedule. If I happen to work late for special program, I may end up at Cheesecake Factory in Friendship Heights for a quick bite.

13. PROUDEST PART OF LIVING IN THE D.C. AREA

Living in the nation's capital, the seat of government!

14. EMBARRASSING PART OF LIVING IN D.C. AREA

The lack of services for those who need help the most: the disabled, children and the elderly. D.C. is a fast-paced city; if you don't move quickly enough, you will get left behind.
