Woman uses baby to shield her from cop's taser

HANNIBAL, Mo.  - Police said a northeast Missouri mother used her 1-year-old child to shield a man from a Taser during a confrontation with officers. The woman, 20, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and interfering with an arrest. She was arrested Tuesday night and placed at the Marion County jail on a 24-hour hold.

The child, whose gender police did not release, was placed with another family member.

Officers were at an apartment checking on an assault claim made by the woman when a man confronted them, making threats. One of the officers displayed a Taser as the man approached.

Police said the mother offered her child to the man, placing the toddler in the Taser's path. The man, 22, faces two counts of resisting arrest.

"Police said the mother offered her child to the man, placing the toddler in the Taser's path."

So they mean to say the man was holding the toddler and the officer shot him with the taser.

honestly, when does everything have to be about cops being bad guys.
"one of the officers displayed a Taser as the man approached"...then "police said the mother offered her child to the man, placing the toddler in the Taser's path". Meaning either she held the child up in front of the man, or she gave the child to the man to hold so that the police wouldn't Taser him. The story also does not say that they Tasered the man while he held the toddler.
This is more like a case of unfit parenting.

Read: Police draw a firearm (albeit non-lethal) in the presence of an infant. Excuse me, but NO. That's all the context I need to determine that direct physical restraint, if needed, was the most viable option. Get your heads on straight.

"Heh" You WERE NOT there. You have NO idea how the perpetrators were behaving. As Jenn said "why is it the police are always the bad guys?" What the heck about a "mother" who put HER child in danger? I think she should lose custody for being so ignorant and stupid. Obviously you are biased beyond belief you don't want to hear the truth. By the way, how do you have direct physical restraint when the so called mother is putting the baby in between the altercation? The police were there to help the mother, DUH! Why don't you work with the police just ONE night and see what they have to go through to protect your pacifist rear end.
