Ramona Oliver of the National Education Association, the largest teacher union, says that 350 delegates are NEA members or officials. It’s probably the organization with the largest representation at the Democratic convention and one reason why public employee unions are a powerful constituency in the Democratic party. Oliver admits that the NEA has some differences with the Obama administration, but likes Education Secretary Arne Duncan and says he’s working toward the same goals, “which is the important thing.”

Was the NEA at the Republican convention in Tampa? Yes, Oliver says, they had about 30 delegates there. She estimates that about 30% of NEA members are Republicans, 40% Democrats and 30% Independents. But I’m betting she’s hoping that NEA members deliver more than a 10% margin for the Obama-Biden ticket.
