Republican consultant Jeff Roe is launching a new firm that offers a turnkey, ground-game-for-hire to political campaigns and is among the first to make available grassroots organizing as a professional service.
The new firm, Vanguard Field Strategies, specializes in providing experienced teams of political field hands, made up of grassroots conservatives, to Republican campaigns to knock on doors, gather data for voter targeting and messaging, and turn out the vote.
Roe told the Washington Examiner in an interview that he has a staff of 250 on hand to deploy to interested campaigns, with another 250 people available to draw from as demand for Vanguard’s services requires.
“We created an infrastructure,” Roe said.
Campaigns and organizations typically use contractors for door-knocking and petition-gathering services.
What makes Vanguard unique, Roe said, is that it is designed to replicate the high quality performance delivered by enthusiastic volunteers who work on major top of the ticket races, like presidential and gubernatorial campaigns.
Just like an organically assembled voter turnout operation would, Vanguard’s teams will relocate to, and ensconce themselves in, the communities they’re working in. They will be comprised of grassroots field hands who are experienced political organizers and committed to conservative causes and issues.
“They’re used to working with data, they understand a game plan,” Roe said.
However, he explained that because they are conservatives, there might be Republican candidates who request the service who Vanguard has to turn away.
“They’re movement people,” Roe emphasized.
Vanguard is being spun off from Roe’s primary consulting firm, Axiom Strategies. The company will be helmed by Sean Brown, who has been working for Axiom and served as deputy state director for Iowa in Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign, which was managed by Roe.
The firm is available to work with campaigns in the continental U.S. but not Alaska or Hawaii.
“Vanguard is a campaign’s go-to resource for data, targeting, messaging and management,” Brown said in a statement.
