A ninth Springfield-area groping incident has been reported, police officials said.

About 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a 42-year-old woman was grabbed from behind in front of a home in the 6000 block of Hibbling Avenue in Springfield, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The woman, who was unaware of the previous assaults, told a friend about the incident. The friend knew about the attacks and told the victim to contact police.

The victim described her attacker as a Hispanic male with a medium build and short black hair. He was wearing a dark colored jacket, blue jeans and a red baseball cap.

The latest reported incident occurred about half an hour after a 23-year-old woman was groped at a bus stop in the 7200 block of Commerce Street, officials said. That victim also described her attacker as a Hispanic male, but she said that he was wearing a black baseball hat, tan pants and white tennis shoes.

Still, these two incidents and seven others in the area are believed to have been committed by the same person, police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said. The earliest reported fondling took place in September.
