At the end of a House Education and Workforce Committee hearing today on the status of the National Labor Relations Board, Rep. Robert Andrews, D-N.J., ranking member on the health, employment, labor and pensions committee had the following observation:

I think that we are here because the Senate has, I believe has abused the advise and consent rule. I think there is a difference between using the power of that clause to serve your political point of view and paralyzing the executive branch. I, by the way, do not think that that abuse has been limited to the Republican Party in these last few years. I think it has been a chronic problem in our government for the last couple of decades. I do think that that problem has metastasized in the last few years. (Emphasis added.)
