The White House on Monday said that President Obama is being briefed on a shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

“The President has been briefed several times about the unfolding situation at the Washington Navy Yard by Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco and Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco,” said a White House official.

“The President directed his team to stay in touch with our federal partners, including the Navy and FBI, as well as the local officials. We urge citizens to listen to the authorities and follow directions from the first responders on site,” the official added.

The U.S. Navy said there were “several” injuries at the compound as law enforcement officials searched for an active shooter.

A report from NBC Washington said there were at least seven injured, including one D.C. police officer.
