President Obama responded to the news that members of his political team had at one time considered replacing Vice President Joe Biden as his running mate in 2012 with then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Obama was asked about the report during an interview with MSNBC's Chuck Todd.

"Here is the one thing I can say for certain, that if they had asked me I would have said, 'There is no way that I'm not running again with Joe Biden,'" Obama said. "Because I generally believe that he has been one of the best vice presidents in history."

Obama added that Biden was not only "one of his best political advisers" but a good friend who had his back in political fights.

"What I told him, and he believes me, is that I would not be here if it weren't for the support that I've had from Joe Biden," calling his decision to select him as vice president "one of the best decisions that I've ever made."
