Some politicians want to fight Big Oil with the tools of big government: prohibit drilling, create windfall-profit taxes, impose new emissions rules, bar pipeline-building.

But as with any industry, oil’s interests sometimes require big government, making the libertarian view the anti-oil view. So it was in Colorado this week, as the Holyoke Enterprise reports:

The more they heard, the less they liked.

That’s how Democrats in the House Transportation and Energy Committee reacted to a bill that would have granted eminent domain and condemnation rights to oil pipeline companies. But the committee instead voted 12-1 last week to kill the bill, at the sponsor’s request.
