River drowning in pork barrel dollars

WHO: Rep. Michael S. Michaud, D-ME

WHAT:  Secured a $200,000 federal earmark to help finance the Dore’s Run of River Project to create a whitewater rafting entertainment park in downtown Skowhegan. The Kennebec river runs through Skowhegan.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Maine officials predict the Dore’s Run of River Project will “draw boating enthusiasts from across the country,” according to the Kennebec Journal Morning Sentinel. So why not let the people who use it and benefit from it pay for the project?

WHERE TO VENT: Rep. Michaud can be reached via the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-225-3121.

WHAT is wrong with that??? the rafter or boaters will dump thousands into the economy and local businesses, isnt that what its all about. Id say he did a pretty darn good thing. Why whine and moan about everything someone tries to do good.

Sounds like a great way to stimlate the local economy to me.

I'm all for it. Plenty of boaters, rafters, kayakers pass through here headed north anyhow. Let 'em add some vibrancy to our downtown economy. Thanks Rep. Michaud.

Of course local people want pork barrel dollars! What's wrong!? It's too local, let Skowhegan or Maine come up with its own dollars. Better to improve, resurrect the Fair Skowhegan, ME. And worse, it's the Kennebec River! (Only campers and counselors know the tales of woe and lost souls still wondering the bottom).

EVERYONE is local somewhere "Robert" what you said makes no sense! The Kennebec is one of the BEST rafting rivers in the United States. The intent of Earmarks is to fund projects that will generate, locally, the economy therefor stimulating the United States economy. We need more local projects like this throughout Maine, especially in Northern Maine.
