Intimidate the CIA, clear the Black Panthers?

Examiner Editorial

August 16, 2009

President Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, wants to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate charges that the Central Intelligence Agency abused alleged and proven terrorists. A successful prosecution under this inquiry would require proof that an interrogator "specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering." Such an investigation has little or no chance of success. But it has an extremely high chance of intimidating intelligence operatives when they seek information that could save American lives.

It is extremely baffling why this sop for the Left would quickly become one of Obama's priorities in law enforcement. But it is less surprising in the context of the Justice Department's politicized operations under Holder. Take, for example, his decisionto overrule the Office of Legal Council's decades-old opinion that Washington, D.C., cannot be granted a voting congressional representative by statute. Holder shopped around for an alternative opinion on whether he could defend Obama in the event that he signs a bill granting a voting representative to the District.

More importantly, consider the Justice Department'streatment of jackboot-wearing members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense - Malik Zulu Shabazz, Jerry Jackson and Minister King Samir Shabazz (who brandished a billy club) -- who were caught on video tape intimidating voters at a Philadelphia polling place in November. The hostile and racist intentions of the Black Panther organization are well known. Jackson, who is also an elected official in Pennsylvania's Democratic Party, listed "Killin' Crakkkas" among his interests on his MySpace page, which was extensively edited after reporters began looking into his background.

Even though career attorneys at Justice had won a default judgment against the hate group for voter intimidation, the department dismissed the case against two of the men and merely sought a restraining order against the third, rather than seeking appropriate penalties, including jail time, for all three. That decision was approved by an Obama appointee, Associate Attorney General Thomas J. Perelli. No satisfactory explanation for the decision has been tendered by anyone in the administration.

The lesson is clear enough, though: If you intimidate voters in the service of President Obama's election, your offense can be overlooked. If you rough up a few terrorists in an effort to save American lives, then the full weight of the U.S. government will be brought to bear against you. Such are the misplaced priorities at the Justice Department.

HEY MIDDLE AMERICA

what exactly did you expect...we told you what a threat barryboo was/is and you laughed at us...barryboo is probably much worse than even we thought and is purposely trying to wreck the country...at this point it is not out of the question that team barryboo wants to junk the country entirely as opposed to just socializing it...if socialism were the true goal then we would see some government investment into factories to "compete" against the private sector much like the touted "public option" but there is absolutely no movement towards that...barryboo doesn't even mention job creation but mentions "sacrifice" ad nauseam...barryboo wants massive defense cuts on top of those already made to several weapons systems while our sworn enemies perfect their's...look closely at the pictures of barryboo when he meets foreign leaders...he has that "sneaky smirk" on his face

Eric Holder. My, what a caution! The guy who engineered the end run around DOJ regs that got Marc Rich his pardon. The man who, when certain "interests" tried to put him on the Illinois Gaming Comm. in order to get a casino go-ahead for some VERY questionable people, was found to be a little too stinky. When Chicago pols are steering clear of you it's a pretty good sign that everyone else ought to, too.

At least Holder was never in some serious money deals with somebody like Tony Rezco. Speakin' of Tony, what's he up to these days? Haven't seen him around much. Been spending time at the White House, has he?

The administration betrays its contempt for the Constitution & the Nation's independent voter ,lulled into a false sense of security by the "promise" of his candidacy.Holder's decision not to prosecute known foriegn & domestic terrorists/subversives while targeting Tea Party participants is proof enough. Are the Black Panther's now to serve Holder as an Urban Intelligence apparatus or The Praetorian Guard ?

Ps If the latter,The Praetorians proved ultimately ,to be rival of the powers they served.

taxation without representation

Aug 17, 2009

Not sure what DC taxes have to do with the CIA, but that issue is an easy one.

Our nation was founded on the idea that if you pay taxes, you should have a representative that can vote on legislation. The notion of taxation without representation is part of why we fought a war for independence.

DC residents pay federal taxes, so they should have a representative who can vote on legislation.

Yes, the district is full of Dems, but are we really that ideologically shallow?
