A big chill on global warming

Examiner Editorial
October 16, 2009

Something important is happening when even the BBC is compelled to ask, as it did this week, "What happened on global warming?" The British news organization has heretofore insisted that the scientific consensus was cemented long ago that global warming is real and is mainly caused by human use of carbon-based fossil fuels. Put simply, what has happened is global temperatures have dropped every year since 1998, recent peer-reviewed research has uncovered the decisive influence of hot and cold cycles in the oceans on land temperatures, and growing numbers of scientists with unquestioned credentials are stepping forward to question the conventional wisdom.

But reaching a new consensus will be exceedingly difficult because the raw data on which the landmark 1996 United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change based its conclusion has been destroyed. The University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit acknowledged in August that it discarded data that, in addition to the IPCC report, has been cited by other international studies as the main justification for severe restrictions on carbon emissions worldwide. This development raises more troubling doubts about global warming just as scientists and policymakers are expected to call for harsh new limits on energy use in its name when they meet in December in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Every schoolchild knows that the last step in the scientific method is independent reproduction of results. But lost climate data cannot be reproduced, which is a huge problem for everybody. "Every time CRU massaged the temperature data, they were getting more warming from the same numbers. It's incumbent upon scientists to find out why, but you can't find out if you don't have the data," Dr. Patrick Michaels, senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute, told The Examiner. "The data needed to verify the gloom-and-doom warming forecasts have disappeared."

The Competitive Enterprise Institute has formally requested that the Environmental Protection Agency, which helps fund CRU, "reopen the record" and allow CEI and others to submit newly uncovered information regarding the East Anglia data destruction. The conservative think tank also wants to submit information about flaws in other data EPA is using as it devises stringent new anti-global warming regulations. Congress should also investigate the dumping of data partially paid for by U.S. taxpayers and other suspicious global warming anomalies, such as the temperature readings taken from "ghost weather stations" like the one at Maine's Ripogenus Dam. It was officially closed in 1995 but allegedly is still transmitting climate data 14 years later. Such questionable data sources must be eliminated if credible policy decisions are ever to be reached.

Oh nooo! This proves it - we need Cap 'n Trade or there'll will be an ice age!!! Only going "green" can stop it! (Greenbacks, that is.)

I think this shows what I have thought all along about the great global warming scare, i.e., that it has been a fraud all along!
Things like disappearing data, ghost weather stations, the deliberate placing of weather instruments in locations where the temperature will be higher than the true ambient temperature, funding of "scientific" research that only reaches the politically correct conclusions, and the attempt to ram through "climate change" legislation before people can read and understand all undermine the credibility of global warming claims.

It all comes down to this: follow the money! It is all about using the global warming scam to raise our taxes. If the elites get away with this, it will be the greatest ripoff scam in world history.

Al Gore should be forced by some czar to forfeit all his ill-gotten gains from flacking a fiction now becoming clear to everyone except the environmental loonies.

Oh, No. QUick pass a bill to subsidize Al Gore. He might lose some the the many tens of millions of dollars he was planning to rake in leading the GW charge. Horrors! He might even be forced to start having to answer questions about his sources and conclusions that do not square up with reality. That reality is such a pesky nuisance it will probably be banned in the final Cap and Trade bill. Lets use some of that reality to dial back the tax and trade, excuse me, Cap and Trade bill and work for responsible, sane methods of preserving the beauty of the earth.

now i guess we can unequivocally state that there is no data supporting global warming.

so gore was right: the debate really is over!

They accidentally destroyed the data. Accidentally, they kept reporting from deactivated weather stations. And oops accidentally placed the stations in outrageous heat sinks such as urban parking lots and roofs. Plllleeeeaaaase!

Thank you, we need more article like this to get the rest of the country to realize the size and scope of the fraud/hoax specifically designed to bleed the remaining wealth from our fellow citizens to the benefit of a few elitist.

This editorial must be a put-on, except that it ain't funny. Are scientists the world over just imagining that polar ice, Greenland, glaciers and tundra are melting faster and faster? That rain forests are not being destroyed? That carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are not at dangerous levels? That sea levels are not rising and endangering coastal areas everywhere? That drought is not a serious problem in Africa, Australia, and our own Southwest? That world population is not expanding while agricultural land is shrinking? That finite resources are not being depleted?
C'mon, editors, wake up and smell the coffee. We're not in some Hollywood disaster movie. Climate change and global warming are real.

I think we do need to try to limit carbon emissions, but the earth has gone through heating and cooling periods many times before. Books bhave been written about about some of these periods, but they are never referenced in explanations of what is happening.

I've seen Gore's presentation and others based on his, and none mention cycles. They all assume that they can predict the future based on current carbon use.

That is what you expect from the left. The ends justify the means. There is going to be a bloody revolution if these people don't back off. The pressure is building and the people are getting angry.

I believe we are entering a mini ice age - just as were the claims in the 70's. And the population expolsion will lead to worldwide famine in 20 years - just as was predicted in the 70's, and the Cubs will win the World Series, just as was.... well...ok. enough.
It's all scaremongering, it's just that the twist this time was more about the money. How much did you make last year Al? Are you authorized to trade carbon credits privately to suckers who think you're really on to something? To quote Joe - "YOU'RE LYING!!"

It's all over. The eco-socialists have won! A new global governance model will be created over the next 5 years and we will look back in the coming decades and remark how prior to the GFC crash of 2008 was the peak of our standard of living. The greatest fiction of all time has become fact. The game is over. George Orwell was right.

Did you ever wonder why, if the green house effect is so dangerous, we have NEVER EVER heard of an actual real greenhouse reaching the "tipping point" and bursting into flames ?

That's becasue it IS IMPOSSIBLE TO "TRAP" HEAT, 3rd law of thermodynamics, check it out it's been in all the textbooks for about a hundred years or so.

Nice and cold here....

Data from NOAA, NASA, and other scientific organizations show that the decade 1998-2008 was the hottest since 1880 when fairly reliable measurements began to be recorded. Each decade since 1880 has been hotter than the previous decade. Climate, unlike weather, is a matter of long-term averages measured in decades rather than hours, days, weeks, months, or years. The claim that Earth has been cooling since 1998 is not true.
Why are people so eager to believe those who have no expertise in climate science , such as your editorial board, rather than people who really know what they're talking about?

MARGARET THATCHER'S ADVISER ON GLOBAL WARMING, LORD MONKTON SAYS A TREATY IS TO BE SIGNED AT COPENHAGEN IN DECEMBER.

IT IS A TRANSFER OF WEALTH FROM THE WESTERN WORLD TO 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES.

IT WILL RESULT ON ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT.

HE SAYS, OBAMA WILL SIGN THIS! BUT...

It is my understanding that in Article 2, Section 2, paragraph 2 of the US Constitution, the president can sign treaties "provided two thirds of the Senators present concur".

1) Please be present for this vote!
2) DO NOT APPROVE IT!

Doing so will effectively sign away our national sovereignty to foreign government!

PLEASE, STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING!!!

Just a short protest against blanket amnesty!! If people want to come to the US, they should come the legal channels. If they want to live here, they should make an effort to learn our language, English! If not, perhaps they should go back to where they came from. I am concerned about the drain on our finances supporting all the illegals in schools, hospitals, etc. We need border security. ep

Nick,

'Polar ice, Greenland..' - I suppose the 10 ice ages/ warming periods following didn't effect the aforementioned?
'Rising sea levels' - Has been occurring to Hawaii and tens of thousands of other islands for many-a-millenia.
'Africa and Australia..' - Africa would remedy their problems if organizing a coup against every country's leader. That continent's more a mess now than when apartheid was a live and well.
Australia once boasted of being the world's largest penal colony. Why? because a majority then, and now is a desert!
'Ag land..' see Africa comment.
Do you really believe were 'God-like' and can change the world's climate? Ignorance is alive and well.

Emmett - 'NASA, NOAA and other organizations..'
You do realize these are ALL GOVERNMENT RUN/FUNDED companies, right?
NASA - look at the 'wunderking' James Hansen's 1988 assessment on AGW. Not to mention the guy's an astronomer and mathematician!
NOAA - run by the Department of Commerce. I can go into detail but I've but so much space..
'..other organizations' - do you mean the IPCC/WMO? Please, please if you're to make these types of comments, get an education in the sciences beforehand..

nothothere, the planet Venus proves that heat can be trapped. Ask anyone who has passed an astronomy course since high school. Don't forget: AGW isn't about how hot you feel today; it's about trends over decades.

keepitrealdog

Oct 20, 2009

I would just like the scientist on the global warming side to explain to me the proof of AGW. What will prove it and what will disprove it? If we had thirty years of consecutive cooling as measured by highs and lows on every continent, north and south of the equator, would this disprove AGW? 20 years? Ooops, we have 10. Please give me a number. You can't live on data that comes from Uranus.

Stocks for Gore

Oct 20, 2009

In the medieval times, charlatans were judged by their peers and placed in the Stocks which will seem bizarre to all the loony lefty how do you feel brigade.

Then the local people from who the offending person had stolen was pelted with tomatoes or potatoes/stones if you really felt bad about them.

Maybe now is the time for a rebirth of the stocks where we can put Al Gore, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Obahma and every 'world government' loony, plus of course their lackeys like the Maldives government who will do anything for a fast buck.

Then the real people can show them what the honest population feel about their lies.

If we ever get to have another election in the uk. (6 months to go) the loony left will be put to bed for a generation and our children will be saved.

Get a job

Oct 20, 2009

Hey Forest Green,

Why not stop complaining and just GET A REAL JOB like everyone else. Trends over decades show that over the last decade we have entered a significant cooling trend.

What are the loony greens campaigning for? Oh yes that's it. SHUT DOWN THE POWER STATIONS AND KILL ALL THE OLD FOLK. Population control...

How many calories are there in a Fat Green campaigner and will they burn? That's what people will be looking at if you try to freeze their grannies to death by limiting their access to fuel.

You may have bought into the AGW nonsense but you are just an expendable fool to these people. They will not look after you.

CHILL

Oct 20, 2009

This data is discussed in PETER TAYLORS new book 'CHILL', exposing that the data that the 'global warming'theory is based on is totally suspect. Now they tell us this data has disappeared to prevent further scrutiny exposing the gaping holes in climate change theory !!! what a farce. WHAT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING IS GLOBAL COOLING.
CHILL.

Forest Green

Oct 20, 2009

Now can we move on the issue at hand? This is a newspaper. Why don't the editors deal with the science, and speak to the people who deal with it on a regular basis, instead of parroting the talking points of the skeptics? "So what if NASA and NOAA have the data? We found a guy who wrote a book that tells us what we want to believe!" Sorry, I don't *want* to believe that humans could be messing things up, but maybe we are. What's wrong with cleaning up our messes, like our parents taught us? Sheesh.

All previous comments when combined, illustrate the complex range of emotion upon a topic that should be cut and dry science. Yet it is not. This is because of the web of lise and deceit which was spun many years ago in "The First Global Revolution"-published by the Club of Rome. This organization along with the U.N. are creatures of the CFR which has from its origins calledfor a one world government. If this battle is won. There is still the agenda for the 21st century "Agenda 21 " that each of uswill have to fight against to keep the sovernty of our republic. Please that the U.N. 's charter is nearly identical to the formersoviet union. If the globalists win. This country will be under the yoke of U.N control and all personal property, religion as we know it , family units and the right to bear arms will only be a memory. Allof this is just the most currentassault in a long list to come be vigilant andprotect our Republic
