Angry taxpayers to rally at Tea Party protests

Examiner Editorial
-
April 14, 2009

If things go as organizers plan, thousands of ordinary, hard-working Americans will hit the streets Wednesday in hundreds of Tea Party Protests called to oppose the high-tax and deficit spending policies of President Obama and the Democratic Congress. Some observers have compared the Tea Party Protests to the Tax Revolt that began in California in the 1970s and spread nationwide, eventually providing important support for President Ronald Reagan’s landmark 1981 tax rate cut. But there really is nothing in modern American political history to match the spontaneous explosion of grassroots political activism in recent months among what once was known as the Silent Majority.

The movement started with a “Porkulus” protest organized by Keli Carender, a blogger-mom in Seattle getting her first taste of political activism, three days before the now-famous Feb. 19 television news rant by CNBC reporter Rick Santelli from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Carender was concerned about Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus package. Blogger Michelle Malkin got wind of Carender’s activity and touted it, which led to similar protests in Colorado, Arizona, and Kansas. A national movement caught fire, organized by a bunch of mostly unconnected people who found each other via social networking on the Internet. These facts about the origins of the movement render especially goofy recent accusations from pro-Obama groups on the left that the Tea Party Protests are somehow part of an evil right-wing conspiracy funded either by CNBC or Fox News.

Part of the reason for the mean-spiritedness in some of the attacks from the pro-Obama groups is likely the failure of efforts to turn out large crowds in support of the chief executive’s $787 billion economic stimulus package and $3.6 trillion 2010 federal budget, with its $1 trillion deficit and comparable floods of red ink for a decade thereafter. The recent “New Way Forward” gathering here in D.C., for example, was heralded by organizers as the first of a wave of counter-Tea Party Protests, but barely a dozen people turned out. Similarly, much-publicized efforts to use the 13-million email addresses compiled by the Obama campaign to generate pressure on Congress barely caused a ripple, much less a wave of support for the Obama budget. If you are interested in participating in a Tea Party Protest tomorrow, you can find information at http://taxdayteaparty.com/ and at http://www.teapartyday.com/

Congratulations to the examiner for taking notice. If the present administration is "All that is standing between [the bankers] and the pitchforks", who's standing between the administration and the pitchforks?

"In 1767 Parliament also passed the Townshend Revenue Act of 1767, which levied new taxes, including one on tea, in the colonies. The Boston Tea Party was a controversy about Parliament's right to tax the colonies. This is Tea Party being held today is a nationwide protest started by the Porkulas protest organized by Carender, but taken over by right wing zealots like FOX and folks like Cavuto,. Malkin,. Beck,. Hannity. Enough with the oh-this-is-a-non-partisan-event. Even Geraldo Rivera and Fox Regular Hater Ann Coulter admitted” that this tea party deal is a movement by conservatives who are upset with Obama. This is nothing but a hate rally."

And thus comes 'GWS' to spread lies. Where, exactly, is the 'hate', mister troll? And what's your evidence that they've been 'taken over' by anyone? Where, EXACTLY, did Coulter say any such thing? And most important: Why does an anto-tax grassroots movement scare the left so much? Spare us the leftist talking points. We already know that MoveOn plans to infiltrate these events in an attempt to discredit the movement. We'll see you there.

By definition, the grassroots is the bottom of the political pyramid, opposite the "establishment," which controls the top. It's a little hard to claim to be “grassroots” when you're in bed with heavily funded organizations like Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works, associated with Newt Gingrich's organization, and when you've got Fox News, rumored to be the #1 cable news network, aggressively promoting for you.

I am an individual and for the first time I am really pissed off both by the left and the right. Neither of them seems to have any idea of the problem or the willingness to do anything about it. The left is in love with a new president who has proven to be nothing more than a pultroon. The right is in love with holding on to whatever power they have so they care little about rocking the boat. Let us hope that this new movement cleans both houses.

Texas – all white; Orlando – all white; Topeka – all white (little confusion about the message there; one person held up an anti-immigration sign); Oklahoma – all white; Chicago's Daley Plaza – all white; Santa Barbara County, California – all white (with the exception of the guy at the mic, who appears to be Fox News' poster boy crooner in favor of the protests, Lloyd Marcus); St. Louis – all white. You get the drift. When you are out of power and have no ideas, voila, Tea Parties.

GWS.... Funny, I don't remember the Liberal Left calling them "hate rallies" when they were the ones protesting. You did, however, manage to make a point we're all aware of already..... You're/They're scared. We know this. It gives us confidence. It makes us want to continue. It makes us think that maybe July 4th needs to be Washington. So, please GWS... keep commenting. You amuse us with your "rumored to be the #1 cable show" (sticks in your craw, eh?) and your total obliviousness to MoveOn et al and the root rot from which your side is dying. And how exactly are we supposed to rally the support of the black community when Libs refuse to let them off the plantation? Again, GWS, Thanks. You give us valuable insight into our opposition. You're scared, vulnerable and unsure. Right where we want you. How's that whole "hope and change" working out for you? For us, it's our new "hate rally" chant.

GWS....Good question how come the blacks aren't out there..they're getting taxed just as heavily as the rest of us...couldn't ya say that maybe they're the ones that are racist for not being out there and the same could be said for every other color...are they only straight ...'cause if so then maybe they're homophobic...btw...I'm a white liberal lesbian who's going to one tomorrow...problem with that troll?

What is also funny, GWS, is that I can't find a single picture on Google with enough detail to be able to tell who is making up the crowd. I see lots of long shots on the crowds, lots of caps, hoods etc since its been cold. I was personally amazed at the diversity that I saw in Dallas and in the videos on You Tube both of the crowds and the leadership. I think you see all white because that is what you want to see. I saw black, Hispanic, white, Asian, Asian Indians and Middle Easterners. Maybe in your way of thinking, anyone who isn't black is white? If that is the case then yeah all of those "white" people from all over the world from many different cultures were the majority and the black folks were in the minority. But it sure as hell is not "all white", defamer.

Its working out fine with me Kerochee. I am glad to help your kkkcause. Every one knows you guys just can't stand a black man in the White House but you have to be politically correct these days. Yes, FOX is No. one. Hate sales. General Motors is No. 1 and so is McDonalds. But do they make the best product? No. I prefer a BMW and Prime Rib. Its better quality.

Those were the ACORN and MoveOn folks you say Peggy. Remember, we are infiltrating the rallies. Some said there were some non-whites there: Sighted at the rallies were: Larry Elder, Ron Christie, Angela McGlowan. Jason Whitlock, Jesse Lee Peterson aka Sambo, Armstrong Williams, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Gary Franks, Alan Keyes and Michael Steele. The Grand Wizard is Sean Hannity.

The tea parties are non partisan. Some non liberal to the max Democrats will participate, a lot of independents will participate and masses of conservatives will participate. Since the Democrats deep-sixed conservatives years ago, many of those conservatives will identify with the Republican. Nonetheless, the tea parties are non partisan. If the tea parties gave rise to the Tea Party, I would support it. It would then be partisan. How can any sane person support galactic size borrowing as a way to get out of incredible debt? How can any sane person support debasing the currency through the printing of script that becomes worth less and less and triggers enormous inflation? Perhaps the trolls can speak up in favor of the Obama plan. How will it work? How will we pay for it? How will bankrupted entitlement programs be saved? How can we pay for additional entitlements? Be brave, be brilliant and be precise, trolls, we await your explanations.

Come on, GWS, is that the best you've got? Let's see vast right wing conspiracy, KKK, BushHitler, crooked rich folk and Sean Hannity as the Grand Wizard. Kinda lame, you gotta get some new material. I guess you've run out of "original" ideas (I'm sure you thought all that blustering you've been doing your own thinking...). Go to Kos and I'm sure they've put out a memo by now with new and interesting sound bites for you to cut and paste. Please, continue. What a bunch of nonsense. The economic damage was done well before Obama took office, and there were no such protests. This "protest" is disengenuous, unfocused and illogical at best. At worst, it's cynical demagoguery. and the Examiner shows itself to be a very silly paper in this editorial.

Answer To GWS "GWS: "What not call it the angry white folks rally. I checked out all the pictures taken over the country, nothing but white folks." Is it ironic that white folks are the majority of tax payers? Most non-whites I know live on welfare and goverment programms. Why would they go to a tea party? It is poor white people who are taxed to death to support Obama's welfare state are going to show up on those parties. But I still think it will not change anything. The goal of this administration is to destroy USA and build USSA (United Socialist States of America)

jim: "and the Examiner shows itself to be a very silly paper in this editorial." ****************************** JIm: They should just rename this paper the Republican Neo=Con Examiner. I mean, there is no writers here offering any opposing views. They could not even write something positive about the easter egg affair at the White House. Nor could the write about how the President handled the hostage situation. Or the article complaining about folks calling Obama brilliant. I checked out their partner FOX and Hannity last night. When there is good news about Obama, Hannity will find some way to make his idiotic views feel better. He did not disappoint them last night saying Obama was not responsible for the success of this mission. They give it out free so I read it except on Monday.

White Folk: Did you know the taxes you are complaining about are those of the Bush Administration? So what are you protesting about. You listen to idiots like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and you parrot "The goal of this administration is to destroy USA and build USSA)". Obviously past tactics of just tax breaks for the rich, trickle down economics and de-regulation got us in this mess. It leaves me to believe there are other elements of this rally beside simple economics if you get my drift. . The tax proposal by Obama is supposed to lower your tax unless you make over 250,000. Most folks out there are not in that category. So.....

Whew! Awful lot of very angry white people here! What in goodness's name has gotten into you? I know it's tough being out of power but, trust me, one of you will "off" Mr. Obama before the end of his 4-year term. Then the Repugnantcans can have at it all over again, thus creating even more red ink. Sheesh. Take it easy, eh?

GWS

Apr 14, 2009

jeandarc: How about the case of Richard Poplawski and the three dead Pittsburgh policemen: Poplawski was fueled by a toxic mix of white-supremacist/conspiracy-theorist paranoia and mainstream-media fearmongering, including from the likes of Glenn Beck and Fox News. Poplawski bought into the SHTF/TEOTWAKI [S--t Hits The Fan/The End Of The World As We Know It] conspiracy theories hook, line and sinker, even posting a link to Stormfront of a YouTube video featuring talk show host Glenn Beck talking about FEMA camps. An account kept on Stormfront, a gathering place for racial extremists and others from the far-right show Mr. Poplawski's increasing belief in a coming economic and political collapse in the days leading up to the time of the deadly standoff in which he is charged with killing three Pittsburgh police officers. What you say is not far fetched. I fear for my President.

Yes, tyranny. A.K.A. our democratically elected President. You know what guys....I think you might be confusing tyranny with losing. But see, when the guy that you disagree with gets elected, he's probably going to do things you disagree with. He could cut taxes on the wealthy. Remove government's oversight capability. Invade a country that you thought should not be invaded but that's not tyranny. That's democracy. See now you're in the minority. It's supposed to taste like sh.t.. And by the way, if I remember correctly when a disagreement was expressed about that President's actions when ya'll were in power I believe the response was "Why do you hate America?". "Watch what you say." "Love it or leave it." "or you are unpatriotic or un American."..... For god's sake guys. You've been out of power for 11 weeks. You've got a mid-term election in twenty months. Pace your rage". Too much too soon will become ineffective when it counts.

The reason for all the tea parties is the same reason that inspired the first tea party in 1773. It’s freedom…freedom from the tyranny of a government that uses taxation, spending, and now bailouts in order to exert control over its citizens. A passion for freedom is what led just over 200 colonialists to disguise themselves as Indians (for the politically correct that would “native Americans”) and storm three British ships on Boston harbor, throwing case after case of British tea into the water. If you are fed up with being relegated to serfdom, please pass the tea.

Congrats to DCE for responsible journalism and editorials instead of the brainless propaganda that is disturbingly rampant. And a big *YAWN* for the lame racist attacks on anyone that opposes the unqualified, power hungry, elitist, America hating racist that stole the White House with the help of felons and voter fraud. To the lame race-baiters - deal with it! When you stop having Black or Hispanic organizations, (there are no Miss White America or National Associations for the Advancement of White People), then you might actually have a leg to stand on. The fact is the only racists in the USA are BLACKs and Liberals who constantly define people by race. Conservatives don't make those distinctions like "black Americans". We're AMERICANS. DEAL WITH IT you lazy whiners!!

'Be a community organizer - just like Jesus.' Oh, please stop with that inanity. Jesus was not a community organizer. He was never a community organizer. He did no community organizing. He didn't even organize the religion that bears His name. Until He was 30, Jesus was a carpenter. Then He became an itinerant preacher spreading the Word. No organizing of any kind took place. So give it a rest lest people think you're as dimwitted as Susan Sarandon.

Correction: the present-day Tea Party phenomenon didn't start with Keli Carender. The first one was a Ron Paul campaign rally in Austin, Texas in December of 2007, and the second was a "money bomb" event on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, which raised several million dollars for Paul's campaign. Those of us who've been involved with fighting the explosion of government spending for many years are a bit disgusted at the sight of the neocons trying to jump in front of the parade and pretend it's their idea. Where was Malkin when Bush was blowing a trillion dollars on the Iraq war, or pushing the biggest increase in medicare expenditures in history?

The late Southern Baptist preacher Dr. Adrian Rogers from Memphis said it best; "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does NO good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that, my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealthy by dividing it."

MY WIFE ATTENDED THE TEA PARTY RALLY IN WINCHESTER, VA, THE SAME PLACE THAT BYRAN YORK VISITED. PEOPLE WERE UPSET ABOUT THE HUGH DEBT WE ARE INCURRING, BUT NO VIOLENCE, NO HATE JUST CONCERN. I FIND IT AMAZING THAT THE LEFT WHO IS SUPPOSEDLY SO TOLERATE, SEEMS TO HATE WHITE PEOPLE, CONSERVATIVES AND LIBERALS AND ANYONE ELSE WHO DISAGREES WITH THEIR POLICIES. THE ONLY HATE SPEECH I HEARD WAS FROM THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND THE CNN ROOKIE REPORTER WHO SHOULD BE WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES, SINCE SHE IS SO THIN SKINNED ABOUT ANYONE CRITICISING CNN OR THE OBMAMA ADMINISTRATION. BY THE WAY, BASED ON JANET NAPALITANO'S REPORT, I AM A DOMESTIC TERRORIST SINCE I DON'T BELIEVE IN ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, DON'T APPROVE OF GAY MARRIAGE, THINK WE ARE TAXED TOO AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I AM VETERAN. IT'S AMAZING THAT SHE WOULD CALL THE MUSLIM TERRORISTS TERRORISTS, BUT HAS NO PROBLEM USING THAT TERM FOR AMERICANS WHO DON'T AGREE WITH HER.
