Browner is an environmental radical – and a socialist (seriously)

Examiner Editorial

No, it’s not the President-elect, at least not explicitly. Conservatives are often accused of scaremongering when they claim left-wing environmentalists are actually socialists hiding behind green disguises. But with Carol Browner, incoming President Barack Obama’s freshly appointed Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change – the so-called White House “Climate Czar” -  there is no question about the socialism.  Browner is a member of the Commission for a Sustainable World Society (CSWS), which is a formal organ of the Socialist International. Oddly enough, the group’s web site was recently scrubbed to remove Browner’s picture and biography, but her name is still listed next to the photo-biographies of her 14 colleagues on the commission. The Socialist International is no group of woolly-headed idealists. It is an influential assembly of officials from across the international community whose official Statement of Principles describes an agenda of gaining and exercising government power based on socialist concepts.

Browner’s CSWS is similarly open about the economic costs it is willing to impose, across national borders to achieve its environmental utopia. On Sept. 5-6, 2008, the commission noted that the costs of its proposals would “rang[e] in the hundreds of billions of dollars over the next two decades,” and it called for a “redesign of the international rules on intellectual property.” That is international bureaucratese for compelling an inventor to surrender property rights in order to “share” technologies with less-developed countries.

At the Congress of the Socialist International held last June 30-July2, the CSWS officially resolved that “market solutions alone are insufficient and will not provide the financial support and resources necessary to achieve the required combination of deep emission reduction, adaptation to already changing climate conditions, energy security and equitable and environmentally sound economic development.” Again, that’s bureaucratese. It means that international taxes should be imposed to provide the “resources necessary” to impose what the CSWS repeatedly refers to as a ‘regime” against “global warming.”  By appointing Browner to a White House post, Obama has at the least implicitly endorsed an utterly radical socialist agenda for his administration’s environmental policy. The incoming chief executive thus strengthens critics who contend environmental policies aren’t really about protecting endangered species or preserving virgin lands, but rather expanding government power and limiting individual freedom.

"No, it’s not the President-elect, at least not explicitly." Is it just me..or is this a racist reference to "Browner" in the title?

What do Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Adolph Hitler, Mao Tse-tung Mao and Pol Pot have in common? They were all Socialists. Socialism is a bankrupt philosophy of slavery that has created nothing but poverty and misery. Socialism has failed every time it has been implemented. Obama himself stated that he sought out Marxist professors in college, so why are we surprised that he appoints fellow Marxists to the federal government. This Browner understands nothing. She doesn't understand capitalism and the personal freedom that made the US the richest nation in world history, and she will wreak havoc on this nation trying to implement her bankrupt socialist philosophy. Obama voters have elected the very person who will destroy their freedom and prosperity.

With a name like Browner, should we expect anything other than her crapping on anything and everything. I don't

Bush is a Socialist. Seriously.

Or don't you read newspapers. I mean real newspapers. No one in the US has pushed America more toward socialism than Bush since his asleep-at-the-wheel governing style prompted him to nationalize SEVERAL entire industry sectors. Or hadn't you noticed? Give me a break.

No one has pushed the U.S. closer to socialism than George W. Bush since his asleep-at-the-wheel governing style finally caught up with him and he elected to NATIONALIZE several industries. Or hadn't you noticed? Give me a break.

We are not a pure capitalist society, if we ever were. We are a mixture of capitalism and socialism. There's nothing wrong with that. We wouldn't have the road system, water and sewar, electrical system, etc if we were a pure capitalist system. Why are you people so afraid of the private-public partnership in place right now?

"but rather expanding government power and limiting individual freedom." Are you nuts? There was nothing in there attacking individual rights. It seems you can't see the difference between policy disagreement and being against liberty. In case you hadn't noticed, the global economy is headed toward the worst recession since the 1930's. Might not serious economic reforms be a good idea? Conservative economics have clearly failed.

I am a registered democrat but have not voted for a democratic candidate since Jimmy Carter and what a mistake that was. I have voted independent and will continue to. I don't believe any of these policies have anything to do with the once great ideas of the democratic party or liberalism. Socialism and liberalism are not one and the same. A nation should be able to look out for the welfare of its citizens and still hold them accountable for their actions. Since O'Bama keeps referenceing the great President Abrham Lincolm it should be noted that we are at a time in our history when you can fool most of the people most of the time.
