Look in the mirror, Mr. President

Examiner Editorial
October 19, 2009

Politicians of all stripes routinely spin facts and logic so fast they make the rest of us shake our heads in bemused wonder. Then there are those rare occasions when a prominent politician says something that clearly deserves a place in the Political Chutzpah Hall of Fame. President Obama earned a place in the pantheon with his Saturday radio address.

"It's smoke and mirrors," he said. "It's bogus, and it's all too familiar. Every time we get close to passing reform, the insurance companies produce these phony studies as a prescription and say take one of these and call us in a decade. Well not this time. The fact is the insurance industry is making this last-ditch effort to stop reform even as costs continue to rise and our health care dollars continue to be poured into their profits and bonuses and administrative costs that do nothing to make us healthy, that often actually go toward trying to figure out how to avoid covering people. And they are earning these profits and bonuses while enjoying a privileged exception from our anti-trust laws, a matter that Congress is rightfully reviewing."

Before Obama goes much further bashing the health insurance industry, let's review what Obama said during the 2008 presidential campaign. He made two promises that attracted crucial support from independents. He promised "a net federal spending cut" and to "cut taxes for 95 percent of American workers." But from his first day in the Oval Office, Obama has been on a spending binge of such unprecedented magnitude that the federal deficit this year is more than $1.4 trillion, or nearly three times what it was under George Bush in 2008. If Obama's health care reform plan becomes law, the deficit will be even bigger.

As for cutting taxes, that is a topic Obama assiduously avoids these days because he is too busy pushing massive new federal programs that will indirectly add thousands of dollars to the costs of living for virtually every American family, through more expensive health insurance premiums, skyrocketing gasoline and utility bills, and higher prices for food and other consumer goods.

In view of these facts, it is impossible to avoid the conclusion that Obama's campaign promises were just so much ... smoke and mirrors. Not only were Obama's bullying remarks Saturday harsh and hypocritical, they also sounded desperate, shrill and divisive. Not what one expects from a president promising bipartisan reform.

It would seem that the Administration is getting desperate. They think that by pre-empting the Glenn Beck show on Friday’s they can avoid the expose’s of the fallacies in the Progressive’s Health Care opinions. The Progressives still do not have an actual bill, only a few skeletons without the full costs included. They hope to panic all into jumping out of the frying pan and into the flames. Glenn, we both know they will never call your red phone until after Anne Dunn takes her scheduled walk of the plank. It will be only a matter of days before she lands in a more secluded place such as working for John Podesta, along with Van Jones, et al.

The anti-trust exemption allows insurance companies to share info. about bad risks. Without it premiums would skyrocket because insurers would have no way to know which applicants are deadbeats. Obama is an ignoramous - has not placed one former business manager on his team - only community organizers and socialist utopians.

Speaking of smoke and mirrors; everything about this administration smacks of those final scenes from "The Wizard of Oz". The curtain is now drawn, and all the pre-election rhetoric and promises, whether on deficits, Afghanistan, or any other topic is now seen for what it truly was...total bull$#@t.

We have to fight this man and his administration tooth and nail to defeat his "proposed' health reform. I was right about this dude from day one. He is a dangerous man. They are hoping Americans will refrain from criticizing him because he is "black" but I dont' think this version of blackmail is working. Anyone with half a brain should be able to see what he is trying to do to us.

Watch Fox News, don't watch any of the other networks because they are all 'PRO OBAMA'.

During his campaign he lied to everyone asking a question and took the side whatever audience he was lying to.What can you expect from a community organizer? If you listened to his comments about the constitution and nothing else, that was big 0 in a nut shell!

The battle for the nation, liberty and our Constitution is well underway.

Obama is merely ramping up the deception and signaling he will do more of the same.

We're not fooled. But we should have no illusion this is a battle for our nation's character and survival.

Obama is a threat to both. And he plans on continuing his attacks in every direction: American values, character, history, tradition and American liberty itself.

People forget his "experience." His only experience is his ideology. And he has surrounded himself with those who adore leftism, no matter the body count.

Why would a body count matter now? Leftists have a higher calling. Like Mao, Fidel, Chavez, they hear only the bell for their utopia in their minds.

Obama is the same. And he will be a danger. The American people must rise. It is the only way.
And the nation's only hope.

Obama won't even go to the Berlin Wall ceremony. Is the picture getting clearer?

Is this disaster still President?

Obama you are so over. America has found you out and America HATES COMMUNISTS.

Sorry, you need to take your crackpot "advisors" back to conducting ACORN seminars in the backwaters of Chicago.

The worst thing of all is, as he said in New Orleans, "I'm just getting started". And, he has over 3 years to go. My hopes for saving us from this disaster are pinned to the elections next year.
And, to all those who wanted to teach the GOP a lesson and sat home last election, I hope you learned that there is too much at risk to sit home and let the communists take over our country.

If President Obama is criticizing the health insurance industry it is because it deserves it. The health insurance companies' first interest is in making money, and they do that well indeed. Our whole health system leaves too many millions of Americans uninsured, underinsured, denied insurance because of "pre-existing conditions", or in danger of losing what insurance they have. It's long past time for reform, which should include a public option, like "Medicare for all", to reduce costs, make care more available and cheaper, and give Americans more choice and competition.

Desperate, shrill and divisive, now Mr.
President, where is that cool demeanor
you displayed during your campaign? Maybe we get a little shrill when we are losing. Maybe Obama is having a hard time accepting criticism.

@ Amanda
Why is it that among those sympathetic to our president and his agenda, not one person will address the subject of tort reform? Well, of course we know why - because that would really be the basis of a sound reform of the health care industry, but would remove a lucrative revenue stream for thousands of progressive tort lawyers and democrat donors. Texas made those changes a few years ago, saving more than 20% on insurance premiums while creating empolyment conditions which have attracted more than 7000 new doctors to the state.
Progressives don't really want to improve health care for all, or even extend it to those 45M uninsured. They just want cover to foist a one-way socialist regulatory nightmare on the reluctant citizens of the USA.

To Amanda, and all other people that do not understand how insurance works. To allow pre-existing conditions is a prescription for disaster. What's happening in Massachusetts is a great example. People, being thinking animals, have learned they can get insurance, without disclosing a pre-existing condition, have the condition treated, and then drop their insurance. There is nothing the insurance carriers can do about this. This is a recipe for failure in any business model. Instead of paying for every hang nail and sore throat, let's pay for our own office visits. Then, let insurance kick in when a major medical event occurs. This is Major Medical Insurance and it worked for years. There is no FREE lunch. All those free office visits will bankrupt the system. It will be worse than any inconveniences we face now.

Amanda made so many completely discredited and silly points in her one paragraph it would take a page to explain them all. Why she has so much trust in government, when they screw up so many things, is inexplicable.

2.5 yrs ago, I went to the emergency room with a "Giant Bleeding Ulcer" (actual medical term) and had No Medical Insurance. I was treated, requiring 7 pints of blood (you only have 16), with state-of-the-art down-the-throat laser surgery. I... am living proof that if you need medical care in the US, you get it! No Socialism Necessary. Beware the BS out there!

All forms of business come with risk. Insurance is about risk, and paying more for greater risk. Pretty simple, huh. So, these plans shift risk to the taxpayers no matter the cost.
Add to the shift of risk by this administration in other industries to the taxpayers. That's us...
Since when is are taxpayers supposed to assume the risks of private business and individuals? I agree with EasTexas - Bull$#@t!!
Automotive, Financial, Mortgage, Health, Student Loans,,, how much risk are TAXPAYERS supposed to assume?
The answer should be ZERO. ZERO...

@ Amanda

You need to stop watching the filth and lies coming out from whitehouse.gov, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc and pay closer attention to FOX NEWS -- The only fair and balanced media outlet left in this country, which your whiny crybaby Obama and his failed administration hates so much for speaking the TRUTH to the American people who were not fooled enough to drink the Kool-Aid during the campaign and could see the real puppetmasters behind this charade.

@Amanda: I want Obama-Auto-Care. When my car breaks down, I can buy a government subsidized warranty, get my car fixed free of charge (but for the 1 month premium) then drop it again the next month.

Sounds like an awesome deal -- Obama-Auto-Care for all. Car repairs are bankrupting Americans everyday. Oh how many cars will die in the street without it?

Please start naming warranty companies that will sign up to provide this.....?
