Now will Congress investigate ACORN?

Examiner Editorial
September 14, 2009

Dozens of states have charged ACORN employees with voter registration fraud, numerous corporations have paid exorbitant sums of hush money to get the group to call off its demonstrators crying racism, and media organizations have exposed serious questions about how the radical group has spent the hundreds of millions of federal tax dollars it has received over the years. Yet the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now continues uninterrupted with its corrupt voter registration campaigns and corporate shake-downs, while still collecting millions from the government for mortgage and foreclosure counseling, and other purposes.

But an unheralded young man and woman, acting as citizen-journalists, may have finally thrown open ACORN's doors wide enough to shine light on the ugliest of truths about the group. James O'Keefe, a filmmaker, and Hannah Giles, an aspiring investigative reporter with the National Journalism Center, posed as a pimp and prostitute while using a hidden camera to get the goods in ACORN's Washington, D.C., and Baltimore offices.

The intrepid duo entered those offices seeking advice on getting a loan for a brothel featuring 13-year-old girls smuggled into this country from Latin America. They got that and much more, including suggestions on how to conceal the true nature of the enterprise on tax returns. Without voicing any moral qualms about the enterprise, some of the ACORN employees even provided helpful hints on keeping the poor girls quiet about their plight as sex slaves.

The initial reaction from ACORN officials once the O'Keefe/Giles videos were posted on BigGovernment.com was to dismiss them as doctored misrepresentations created by an "international entertainment conglomerate disguising itself as a news agency (Fox)." But, instead of defending their employees who appeared on the video, ACORN officials fired them, thus confirming the legitimacy of the videos. That was the least they could do, considering the apparent evidence on the videos of multiple state and federal felony charges, including participating in child abuse, aiding and abetting tax evasion, and conspiracy to transport minors across state lines for the purposes of prostitution.

The time has come for Congress to stop evading its responsibility to conduct a full-scale investigation into ACORN operations. It's bad enough that dozens of ACORN employees and volunteers have been convicted in recent years of multiple election law violations. Now the O'Keefe/Giles videos provide graphic proof that an organization that supposedly uses its federal largess to counsel poor people on how to avoid foreclosure is using at least some of its federal dollars to encourage the most heinous of crimes against children. Congress can no longer ignore its responsibility to get at the full truth about ACORN, no matter how disgusting it may ultimately be.

RICO

I have to LOL though. Former attorney for ACORN, now our president. Eric Holder as AG - he won't even prosecute thugs caught on tape intimidating voters at a polling place.
If this doen't get prosecuted on a national level, Obama and Holder should be charged with running a protection racket.

don't be surprised

They will go after Joe Wilson while they
ignore ACORN. They are opening the eyes
of the American people everyday. You have to ask yourself, why do they continue to ignore corruption?

Who besides the Examiner and Fox have even covered this story? I haven't seen it if it has been mentioned.

If Congress ever gets around to doing anything about ACORN, so many who believe only what they read in one of the "major" papers, see on the networks, or hear on NPR are going to be really surprised - again - because if it's not reported on one of those it really didn't happen.

Did we really walk on the moon?

This morning I took the time to contact ALL my representatives to let them know it is PAST TIME to investigate Acorn. ALL FUNDING MUST STOP!! They should NOT receive one more tax dollar and should immediately be investigated. PERIOD.

This is a national disgrace!

Sep 14, 2009

Now 3 ACORN offices have all been complicit in promoting and assisting in criminal activities. And our government is subsidizing this rotten organization?!!

This is a national disgrace. WHERE IS THE INVESTIGATION??? If this is investigated from stem to stern, then I will never vote for another democratic candidate in my life and will encourage my 4 children to do the same. I am a registered independent. I am outraged and to think the democratic party is going to try and ignore this! Unbelievable...

There are so many investigations before this like Rove for instance and Cheney. Oh you should be so proud. After several attempts you finally got someone to give advice on getting a loan for a brothel. Just horrible. Voter fraud? Huh. Its voter registration fraud is what they are accused, not voter fraud like Ann Coulter is accused. Where the investigation? ACORN has long been a convenient boogey-man of the right-wingers – mainly, I’d wager, because it’s a powerful organization that works to empower people in impoverished areas, including: “Helping hundreds of thousands of African-American and Latino voters register to vote and get to the polls in recent years. In other words democrat votes.

Is this what Obama and the leftist radicals really want? DO they really want the independant voters who elected Obama into office to believe that Acorn is a representative of them? Obama does nothing about this and it is like spitting in all Americans faces. What have we done to our country by voting this guy into office. God help us all now and you can say goodbye to the country that you love if this is not investigated!

Of course Congress won't investigate them -- ACORN jimmied up a good 5% (at least) of Democrat votes for them -- some of them may have even been legit!

"Its voter registration fraud is what they are accused..."

What the hell is the point of voter "registration" fraud if *NOT* to enable actual voter fraud???

Sort of like "smoking but not inhaling," wouldn't you say?

The public is now finally awake and demanding answers. ACORN is done and they're going to drag the community-agitator-in-chief with them.

How bad is it that a 20-year-old woman showing her hoo-ha on hidden video could scoop the national media? ...about as bad as the fact it took the National f**king Inquirer to break the John Edwards' Baby Daddy Story. And even then, the national Pravda MSM acted like they were being forced to sniff a dog turd, doing whatever they could do to keep a stiff upper lip and let the issue fall from the nation's short term memory.

So typical Washington. I'd like to know which teachers' unions gave money to ACORN and why there's no mention of the ACORN scandal on Yahoo! news. Why is Yahoo! hiding the information?

Under the Voting Rights Act of Congress, "Voter Registration Fraud IS specified and named as "Voter Fraud", a federal crime.

Using inflammatory language like "racist" and "spitting in all Americans faces" does nothing to solve the problem. The allegations against ACORN are serious and I'm sure will be investigated, but in the meantime we shouldn't be exasperating our disagreements fruitlessly. http://www.newsy.com/videos/backed_into_acorner

Congress investigate ACORN? Not on your life! Not a real investigation anyway! Too great a chance of revealing connections to themselves and/or Obozo and his hand picked bunch!
These guys are like roaches when you turn on the lights; they scurry to the nearest dark hole to hide in. Investigation? Don't hold your breath!

Bernie,
I really enjoyed your O'Reilly interview on Mon. Yes, MSM Should be re-named Ole Media (pretty non-perjorative). ACORN is a criminal organization, and should be looked at from every angle: IRS, RICO, and each state's Atty General. Let's hope.

Bernie, someone should look at what it is costing the taxpayers for the 32 plus czars in the Obama White House! It might be interesting.

If ACORN is investigated, maybe a few hands will get slapped, a few people will be fired, and then it will be business, as usual. Remember, this is where BOTH Obamas come from..Acorn is their FAMILY! Don't hold your breath for anything important to happen.

Taking bets on how long it will be before we learn that the ones that were fired at ACORN were immediately hired by one of its affiliates. I don't think they'll have to worry about making their mortgage payments this month. From city councils to the halls of Congress and the White House, corruption thrives.

No, Congress will not investigate ACORN -- altho' I am pleased to see that some in government (Census Bureau and US Senate) to cut them from government largesse. Unfortunately, as long as Democrats know that ACORN can crank out a few hundred thousand or a million illegal votes, Democrats will support ACORN -- and nothing will happen to them.

Show me a case of voter fraud. There are none dope. A bunch of folks send in fraudulent applications to get paid is not voter fraud. Ann Coulter is accused of voter fraud. Voting in two states.
Ohhh how horrible. FOX is so proud of themselves. Going to all these offices trying to entrap for their ignorant viewers pleasure. Can you say David Vitter - hypocrites.

There is going to have to be a whole lot more exposure of this group of thugs masquerading as community organizers to be exposed by THIS Congress. Our leadership knows what's going on, they just look the other way like they did before the financial crisis. When the people getting exposed are the leadership of ACORN et al. eg.,the Apollo Project and SEIU then you will know that we are getting somewhere. Besides, with all the problems we have, Congress is to busy making a spectacle out of Rep. Wilson for calling the President what he is to be bothered with this scandal. It might actually expose our leadership for what they are- duplicitous enablers.

Why isnt this out more in the media? I guarantee you if it was a different type of group that is doing this there would be riots and immediate uproar about the "injustice". What a scam this country is. Look at the bus deal saying it wasnt "racial" give me a break if it was the other way it be all over every advocatcy group and reps newsbrief, press conferences etc.
God what is this country coming to?

It doesn't matter if main stream media doesn't cover these stories. Fewer people read the newspaper and go to those sources for information. Look at the ratings. People are smart enough and have a lot of information at our finger tips to know what's actually going on. Republican and Democrats have been abusing their power for years and it's time that we speak up! Keep in mind that we still have the power to vote! If you don't like your Senator or who's in Congress, we can vote them out as early as next year.
