The Coming Obama Spending Explosion

By: Examiner Editorial
-
October 24, 2008

If you worry about the skyrocketing federal deficits of the Bush era, just wait till the Obama administration hits town. Spending pyrotechnics will be spectacular if Barack Obama is elected and his liberal Democrat allies increase their majorities in Congress come Nov. 4. We already know that Obama has proposed more than $800 billion in new spending, and that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is pushing a $300 billion “stimulus” package on top of the $1 trillion-plus in Wall Street bailouts already approved. Obama defends this spending explosion as “spreading the wealth.” What hasn’t received enough attention, though, are the absurd spending plans already proposed by Obama and other liberals in Congress, plans that would surely come to fruition with expanded Democratic majorities and a like-minded president. House Republican Leader John Boehner put together a helpful compendium of half-baked Democratic spending bills that are sure to re-emerge like the living dead:

• Tax relief for trial lawyers -- $1.5 billion worth over a decade by changing rules  to encourage more and riskier “jackpot justice” lawsuits. (Section 311 of H.R. 6049.)
• Obama’s own proposed Global Poverty Act that would require the United States to spend its own money working at “eradicating extreme hunger, promoting gender equality, empowering women… ensuring environmental sustainability…[and] achieving significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers” worldwide. Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy did the math and concluded this would amount to a new commitment of $845 billion in new foreign aid through 2015. (S.2433)
• New federal subsidies to buy gas for families making up to three times the federal poverty line, which would be $63,600 in annual income for a family of four. (H.R. 6561)
• Wage insurance. Create a new federal payroll tax on all workers to pay for “insurance” that would – get this – pay people up to 50 percent of the difference in wages between an old job and a new, lower-paying job. So if John Doe voluntarily takes a new job that requires 10 hours less work per week, the government would pay him for five of the hours that he doesn’t work – courtesy of other, harder-working wage earners.
• A new, Cabinet-level, multi-billion-dollar federal Department of Peace, dedicated to “peace education and training.” (H.R. 808)

These plans make clear that it would be the wealth of ordinary taxpayers being spread, mostly to people who didn’t earn it. The criminal justice system calls such a process “armed robbery” (because the government’s taxing power is backed up with arms). At this rate, “change we can believe in” would quickly become “nobody has any change left.”

GOP Spends Like Drunken Sailors

Oct 24, 2008

Republicans spend taxpayers' money like drunken sailors. And I apologize for drunken sailors everywhere for that comparison. The GOP is worse than drunken sailors because they BORROW the money from the Chinese and THEN they flush it down the toilet and leave the mess to our grandchildren. So this garbage about higher spending is just that. The Democrats will have to rein in spending and clean up yet another pile of problems created by the Republicans. Who had to reintroduce pay-go rules in Congress? Hint -- It was NOT the Republicans. This editorial is sophmoric and just plain stupid. Big surprise.

Palin Spending Ballooned as Mayor and Gov

Oct 24, 2008

Page 4 of USA Today documents the 55 percent government spending increase when she was mayor of Wasilla (yeah that's a qualification for president) and 31 percent increase as gov of Alaska -- while asking for pork on TOP of that. You can't put lipstick on that pork.

Lets stick to the facts. Which are-Obama will raise taxes and create socialist programs. He has virtually no experience and questionable judgement and character. I can't vote for someone like that.

I'm a McCain supporter, but feel I should point out that Obama dismissed the idea of a Department of Peace when asked about it at campaign appearances, stating that he would instead pursue a "state department that works". Also, McCain has publicly supported wage insurance for laid off workers as well.

I love the idea of a Dept. of Peace. Perhaps we can learn the tools of peace like the military learn the weapons of war. Eventually we will save billions of dollars and save millions of lives. What a concept! Stop being so negative towards this idea. Open up to the possibilities. Wasn't if Jesus who said, "Blessed are the peacemakers."

GOP Big Spenders Busy Rewriting History

Oct 25, 2008

Republicans telling you they will control spending is a big joke. If we didn't have an infusion of Democrats in Congress, those GOP morons would have spent us back to the Stone Age. Obama would be a big spender? WITH WHAT MONEY?! Don't make me laugh. Borrow more from the Chinese?! That's the GOP way.

The Democrats and their tax and spend philosophy is alive and well despite the denials by the politicians. We can only hope that there is some common sense among the conservative Democrats that will prevent this kind of assinine spending that pushes us more and more towards a Socialist society that will ultimately make the U.S. a second rate nation like the European countries.

Do you really think that Obama is going to embrace a lunatic idea like Dennis Kucinich's Department of Peace? Has Obama ever suggested for a moment that he might support such idea? In fact, has Obama ever endorsed any of the hair-brained "proposals" that you list here? And after eight years of the biggest expansion in government spending and domestic spying in history, you folks have no credibility. Compiling a list of dumb ideas and attaching Obama's name to it is an act of cynical desparation.

Republicans' Socialist Takeover of Wall Street

Oct 25, 2008

The Bush Administration has just nationalized Wall Street. How socialist is that? The only thing worse than tax and spend is borrow-billions-from-the-Chinese-for-an-irresponsible-war and spend spend spend. Better know as the Republican strategy for the past 6 years. The lame lie about Democrats and spending is not only stupid, it's old and completely ahistoric. But you're right about the Blue Dog Democrats who are a significant force in keeping fiscal controls on Congress.

Wow, we are about to get a demagogue with no restraints on his ego, spending, and delusions of greatness. I cannot believe America is about to do this, but that seems to be the case. What a sad fate awaits. We are electing a third world thug in a nice new suit.

Well I know a lot of small business people that said they would close their doors if Obama went in as President. They were just holding on now and with his new rules there would be no reason to keep their employees and 'hold on'. They didn't have 'wealth to share', just too many taxes to make it.

Oct 25, 2008

P.S. Everybody is blaming Bush for this mess. Ha Try Barney Frank, Bill Clinton Dodd and Fancy Nancy. I think Bush has done a good job. He tried to stop this Fannie Mae, but the Dems would not hhave it! Social Security would never have been on rocky ground if the Dems hadn't borrowed it and replaced it with IOU's.

I have voted for McCain/Palin via absentee ballot. However, it is my hope that Obama/Biden are successful and the House and Senate both have super majorities that will enable the new administration to possibly appoint two or even three new justices to the U.S. Supreme Court. At that time, America will be on its way to a tyranny of the majority unparalleled in our history. A dictatorship that surely awaken the voting public to foolishness that have unleashed upon themselves and return to roots of liberty upon which America was founded. If America will cry out to Christ Jesus in praryer and repent of its evil ways, He will heal our land. The choice is ours.

First of all, spending in Wasilla went up because jobs, prosperity, and the population did during her tenure. Second, those of you that hate the republicans for "spending so much" - I'm with ya - but if you think for one moment, that the democRATS will spend less... you are hallucinating. It took almost 50 years to get the corrupt democRATS out of office, and they never really left... they blocked all Fannie Mae reform, and kept the congress in deadlock for most of the last 8 years. What I am enjoying most is all of these people with their hopes and dreams invested in RATS. Just wait until it all comes crashing down and The Once takes away your pensions, your 401ks,cities go up in smoke, and there's a new "Fannie Mae-type" program each week. It will be fun watching all your little hearts break. Change, sniff, all I wanted was change. You got it. Live with it.

We'll deserve it!

What's first; the chiken or the egg? The Government gets all of it and we give it back.

you Bush haters make me laugh, are to stupid to take the time to read the Constitution and the Preamble ? If this fraud becomes the President you best sit on a curb and kiss your freedom loving butt good bye ..This will become a socialist nation before dummys have the chance to just read head line a and make another and make one more stupid stupid decision

We shall reap what we sow, hence you dems who think Obama is a messiah will feel his wrath if he wins the election, then pray for your belief in your lalaland foolishness. You dems have your head so high in the clouds you don't see reality. Melanie Scarborough wrote a great article today 10/27 describing the 2 kinds of democrats. Boy did she get it right! I used to be one of the types, until I watched and woke up and paid attention to what was happening.
