President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Others Owe 1.2 Million Tea Party Patriots Apology

The following statement was issued this afternoon by Jenny Beth Martin and theTea Party Patriots, a national organizing effort created following the April 15 Tea Party protests:

Among the political class it has apparently become acceptable, and even fashionable, for American politicians from the President on down to mock the citizens they represent.

In a development that can only further denigrate the discourse necessary to any effective democracy, politicians and the "serious" news media are now mocking citizens regularly and with impunity.

Supported by mainstream journalists on MSNBC and CNN who themselves use sexual slurs on national television to mock and attack the same citizens, the politicians openly demonstrate their feelings of superiority in regard to those they were elected to represent. They now candidly express their disdain for a significant portion of the American population without threat of reprisal by the mainstream media.
On the morning of the April 15th Tea Parties, the American public was informed on national news by one of the President's economic advisers, Jared Bernstein, that the President was "unaware" of the tea parties taking place in over 850 cities across the nation.
On April 29th, the President informed a town hall meeting in St. Louis that he has now become aware of the tea parties, but only from "certain news channels on which I'm not very popular." He referred to the one million plus Patriots who came out in legitimate and constitutionally protected demonstrations of free speech on April 15th as "folks waving tea bags around..."
While he collects royalties (last year about $2.6 million) from his books, “The Audacity of Hope” and “Dreams From My Father,” the President has the audacity to imply that we the people have nothing legitimate to say about high taxes, wasteful spending and corporate bailouts.
The President also seems to believe that it is appropriate to mock millions of Americans who are expressing their opinions publicly in a peaceful manner.
"Perhaps he feels that by mocking the tea parties and the patriots who attend them, that he can marginalize them. But we know that real patriots cannot be marginalized, and that they will continue to make their voices heard in ever greater numbers," says Mark Meckler, Sacramento Tea Party Coordinator and Tea Party Patriots National Leadership Council Member.
This sort of condescending approach to the grassroots is a hallmark of politicians all across this land.  We, the grassroots are mocked by the President as "folks waving tea bags around." Discussion of our legitimate complaints and concerns is avoided through the use of derogatory and condescending rhetoric.
We've heard similar rhetoric from the Speaker Nancy Pelosi who says the tea parties are an "Astroturf initiative," and "contrived events backed by those who like tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans."   Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL), called people who attended the Tea Parties "despicable" and "shameful," "corporate interests" and said the events were created by "Republican lobbyists and politicians."
At every level, the president and the majority of politicians at a national level refuse to discuss the issues head on, and refuse to acknowledge the fact that a huge, non-partisan, grassroots movement has coalesced around limited government, fiscal responsibility and lower taxes.
As politicians, they are simply interested in taking and spending more and more of our money, and in leaving our children with the burdens of their excess. And they will mock, deride and oppose anyone who objects to what they are doing.
At this time, the president, and all other politicians who demeaned the protestors, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, and Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, included, owe 1.2 million patriots an apology. If our politicians are truly interested in dialogue with the people they claim to represent, such a dialogue must begin with respect for the citizens of this country.
That show of respect will begin when the politicians acknowledge that mocking and demeaning well-intentioned, peaceful Tea Party Patriots who love their country is the height of arrogance, and a terrible mistake. The American people deserve better from their elected representatives, and are beginning to demand it.

What did you expect? Do you think the average American under 40 has the slightest notion of what deficit spending, hyperinflation, keysian and friedman economic thought, and other abstract economic concepts are? A great deal of our population are either functionally illiterate or apathetic, the politicians know it, and have decided the best strategy is simply to ignore intelligent voters. "You can fool some of the people all of the time" can be extraordinarily damaging when the group being fooled is a large percentage of an voting population. No it's just much easier to pass them off as "straight-up redneck racists", and stay a way from engaging them in meaningful dialog about macro economics and the future of this country. Now that argument is one which most of the cowardly politically correct Americans will fear and understand.

If peaceful demonstrations are not worth paying attention to, perhaps it is time to take a hint from the other wing of the civil rights movement and start making some waves. Just like in Iraq, burning cars make for great tv.

When I was at the local Tea Party there were quite a few attendees under 40. I would agree with John G that some of the electorate are a sorry lot, yet not all and those that are not have very long memories. Further, the sorry lot will soon be the most angry when they realize that the gReAt "o" (read the impostor) has lied to and used them.

Seems to me that instead of another nationwide TEA Party on the 4th of July, we should have a nationwide general strike during the whole the 4th of July week culminating with the TEA Parties.

The Tea Party Patriots need to put our efforts behind electing some fiscally conservative candidates in 2010 so that some congressional 'brakes' can be applied to slow down this spending ORGY. It's going to be a long 3.75 years until the big zero is voted out of office, but in the meantime, we can work towards a mid-term election 'change' for the better. And we can show up at his political functions and show him that he is not universally loved. Little steps.

They ignore what may very well take them down. Why do you think the metrosexual Obama and his team are intimidating opponents. They may be able to get away with it now, but that day will change and they know it.

Attend a Tea Party near you. And show your anger at election time, vote against the incumbent across the board.

I am a non-activist 53 yr. old, college education professional woman who never paid close attention to politics before. Needless to say, I do now and I have been deeply offended by what our elected officials on the hill have been saying about me, that someone has approached me, on behalf of the wealthy, to "push the Tea Party agenda." Make no mistake, my anger is real and it is mine, without outside influence. I intend to stay angry and make my anger known at election time. Big spenders of both parties are going down.

A classic case of misdirection, as Fred Barnes recently characterized Obama's signature tactic, "pretending to head one way while going another." We little people are supposed to be satisfied with government handouts and not bother our pretty little heads about the power grab that's going on behind the curtain: http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:FsDdlhp6hkkJ:sisu.typepad.com/+sisu+misdirection&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=safari

The cluelessness is astounding. BHO was baiting you. He wants you to keep doing what you're doing, because he knows you will never have an impact. You give him what every leader wants: a completely ineffective opposition. Rather than sending tea through the mail, the smart and effective technique is to engage BHO or the Dems in debate: http://24ahead.com/s/question-authority Whatever your issue, you can use that technique to push it in an effective and intelligent way. Your leaders aren't encouraging you to do that, but instead want you to stand on street corners with signs just like ACORN.

Two things that set the Tea Party protests aside from protests that the media and liberal/progressive politicians find to be meaningful and worthy of respect: 1. Virtually every Tea Party protester is a taxpayer. 2. Virtually every Tea Party protester is a voter. As a tax paying Tea Party protester, I can only say that I am further angered by the scorn that our ruling politicians express for our opinions. And add that if they will not listen to peaceful protest, there are other ways to make our voices heard. Our Founding Fathers ran into the same problem and came up with a fix.

Given BHO's willingness to apologize to everyone else in the world, including our enemies, on our behalf, it would be nice if he could come down amongst the people for a few minutes and express a little respect here as well. But, while our President has no problem being disingenuous, I guess respect for the American people is a kind of sincerity he's unwilling or unable to fake.

Why wait for 2010? Time's-a-wasting! Don't give our wannabe Masters any more time to do their work unimpeded. Get active. Join organizations that reflect your views. Send money to like-minded causes. Visit/email/telephone/write your Congressional representatives. After all, you pay their generous salaries and benefits. Use the time-tested tactics from the 1960s (minus the violence) to "get the message out".

We've got to stop letting our thinking be constrained by the status quo. The fundamental problem is the massive federal encroachment beyond the powers granted by the Constitution. The various state sovereignty (or better, state Responsibilities) laws being contemplated, and this op-ed by Jim DeMint http://tinyurl.com/c574rw point to the solution: return power to the state and local governments. Here is an interesting look at a way to implement the solution: http://tinyurl.com/cdnrwo

I am fed up with it. The TEA party on the 4th of July will not be just a bunch of glorified sign wavers. We will have a theme. Every State, county and jurisdiction will be calling; The Press incessantly Flooding them with e-mails Calling their representatives in the state and at the federal level. Calling the White House. I want every second to be used up on their switch boards. The message is simple: We are watching you. Call say those words and hang up, then dial again. We will not be ignored.

May 2, 2009

Pat, No work/spending may mean no income/sales tax. It also means no rent/mortgage, food, police protection and fire dept. and schools, depending on your state. People wearing tea bags from their glasses and holding signs using words like socialism, fascist, and calling the Pres. Hilter aren't trying to be taken serious. As long as people with legit concerns are willing to be grouped with these attention seekers and uninformed blowhards (Joe the Plumber, the serious concerns will get lost in the spectacle.

Terri, it seems to me you're doing the grouping here. It was the left using the broad brush strokes to paint all citizens with a concern for government fiscal policy as a "straight up bunch of red neck racist". And history repeats itself, as I'm sure the same arguments as yours were put forth by the King Georges Court lackeys some 235 years ago when the first tea parties took place. Arrogant, intellectual royal lackeys attempting to be dismissive of "the peoples" legitimate concerns. Didn't work then and won't work now.

Obama hates America and White Americans. His election was the most damaging event in American history since the War Between the States (and that includes Pearl Harbor and the other wars). His intent is to destroy our country and replace it with a banana people's republic. Of course he is holds we who participated in the Teaparties in contempt, but we who have done our homework on Obama hold him and his entire rotten administration in the deepest contempt possible. Possible now, but, of course, with Obama it will get worse.

Maybe you guys are a little too sensitive. Have you forgotten that just a few years ago you were the ones calling any criticism of George W. Bush treason? Have you forgotten that Bush took office with a huge surplus and, with your support, immediately turned it into record deficits? We are supposed to believe that you have suddenly become fiscally responsible? After decades of your support for deficit spenders like Reagan, Bush and Bush? After years of laughing at the ugly snarling "humor" of people like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter your feelings are hurt by a few wise cracks? You poor dears.

Obama couldn't marginalize the tea partiers more than they did themselves. We get it; you're mad as hell and you're not going to blah blah blah from a movie character who loses his mind. Very compelling. I know, Obama's birth certificate is a forgery, he's a Muslim socialist who bowed to the King of Saud, shook hands with Chavez, apologized to the world, is in Soros' pocket, etc. etc. And the best you've got is tax cuts for the wealthiest 1% again. You're all offended by what someone said about Miss California. You're all upset because the White House put the screws to a few financiers about Chrysler. You're all upset because the stimulus and spending bills passed. You're all up set because they named the dog Bo. Which is really B.H.O. You're really upset because Obama is really Hitler. This is all so convincing.

One of the problems, as I see it, is there are too many people that have this perceptual filter, where they have to group everything into a rep/dem, left-wing/right-wing framework before proceeding on to analyze what the Tea Party movement is about. I for one, do not want either the dems or repubs trying to hijack this movement. It is more about the rights of the INDIVIDUAL. Some of us were mad as hell about the bank bailouts under the Bush Administration, but the tipping point came when they continued under the Obama administration. You remember, "change you can believe in" and "talking about main street not wall street". Many of us who are thinking more independently, want to get rid of all of these clowns, dems and repubs alike. Restrain Global Corporation and Big Government power and corruption, Return power to the Individual citizen. Down with Big Brother.

Those writers who claim that we were all right with Bush and congress (a Dem congress) spending wildly, demonstrate a totally biased blindness. "WE" were NOT in agreement with Bush - or any president or congress. "WE" are not demonstrating against or for any president or party. "WE" are intellectually consistent unlike those who were against the spending when Bush was in office but now that BHO is in they're no longer appalled by the spending. Those of you who want to be slaves/subjects of the government, go ahead, provide cover for them. You too can live like a Cuban does today. "WE've" had enough.

Well put John G. I don't need a "leader". I don't want to be led anywhere. I do want to be free to live my life without interference from government. I do want a "representative", one who will look out for my interests, which don't include giving the government even more control over my life and more of the money that I worked for.

May 3, 2009

When you call yourselves Patriots, you send the message that everyone else in the United States is something less than that. I think that's condescending. Just because a movement is "grassroots" (and I question if yours is), doesn't mean its message is correct or shared by a majority of people. Look, I don't know whether the stimulus et al will work. Neither do you. But the fact that you shout about it publicly doesn't mean you're more likely to be right than anyone else.

We need to come up with a theme soon for the next round of tea parties. Personally I would like to see a huge protest against the liberal media who are big time responsible for the humongous fiasco that this administration is turning out to be. Also I would like to inform the foreign media beforehand that this nationwide protest against the liberal media is coming so this can be televised all over the world.

I am a patriot because individual liberty is a priority with me. Individual liberty is undermined by federal government acting outside the limits of the Constitution, regardless of which political party dominates. Individuals who support federal government operating outside the limits of the Constitution are not patriots. If they nonetheless consider themselves patriots, then they are misinformed regarding how individual liberty is retained, and/or what it means to be a patriot. Patriotism is not blind, passionate allegence to political party and/or government authority.

The leftists calling tea party participants anti-American are obviously illiterate in history because tea partiers are the most authentic Americans out there. They are tax paying and law abiding productive citizens. It's the parasites and permanent grievance mongers who are un-American. It's the big government Euro-socialists who are anti-American. It's the president who beggars future generations to buy votes and goes on a grovelling world apology tour to some of the worst countries in the world who's anti-American. How stupid can a leftist be to complain about Bush's spending (which conservatives did not approve) when their messiah with their slavish approval spends in three months 4 times what Bush spent in 8 years? If Bush's spending was wrong, Obama's is wrong on steroids.

Politicians like Obama, Pelosi and Schakowsky owe the Tea Party Participants a serious apology. They need to apologize for the things they said and the way that they said them. They need not qualify their apologies with words such as "IF anyone was offended." Apologize...no IFs ANDs or BUTs! Don't apologize for how we interpreted your remarks or for how we reacted, apologize for what you did.

The tea parties represent every thing that is America. Our ancestors protested something they believed to be unfair. Our history is about standing up for our own values, in spite of what is popular at the time. It is our right, one that has been defended by precious blood for over 200 years. Regardless of party politics, anyone has the choice to speak out against something deemed unfair. If you don't agree with the means of protest, that is your right. If I don't agree with the unreasonable spending, that is my choice. It is my own belief, so let me express it, in any manner that I choose. The left does not have the only right of protest.

I was just reading another blog about how conservatives need to play as dirty as the left has played all these years in order to get change. When I hear how Obama ridicules those who oppose him (and this is not the first time he's done this--I still can't believe he mentions Rush Limbaugh by name during press conferences...what does he have to do with anything, does Obama hate free speech??) I think that maybe peaceful protests are not that fashionable anymore and us conservatives are playing an outdated game in a bygone era. I do not advocate for violence and lord knows if we used it we would be persecuted by the media (will they happily list our grievances as they did with the G20 rioters last month?) but we have to start getting really dirty, really dirty and start embarrassing a lot of people, really rip them a part verbally. We need to make the left sweat. They've had it too easy. We can start by penetrating the private lives of CNN reporters and the editors of Newsweek.

I believe that Obama is a man who needs to be loved. He simply lives for aduration. I don't think he's your typical egomaniac of which all politicians are to some degree--republican, democrats, whatever--but he has almost a schoolboy need to be loved. You can see this when he goes to europe and is worshipped like a rock star. I've noticed since he's been sworn into office that he actually loses himself when he had to deal with those who don't like him or openly oppose him. It seems to bother him on a very visceral level, not so much a political one (although left wing politics is visceral).
