Thanks a lot, RNC. You Just Couldn't Leave Her Alone, Could You?

Every time I think the campaign professionals at the Republican National Committee can't possibly do anything else to sink the party, they do something else that simply defies logical explanation. Like taking a candidate who epitomizes Middle American values and spending $150,000 to dress her up in Saks Fifth Avenue finery.

Apparently, they just couldn't stand the thought of a GOP candidate for vice president actually wearing the same clothes on the campaign trail that she wears in real life. No, they had to go make her look like ... one of them.

Did nobody over there think it through and realize doing this would hand Obama and the Democrats the last perfect piece of evidence of how out of touch Republicans are with the real world?

Didn't any of them stop and think - what happens when this hits Politico? As they had to know it would?

And then they wonder why the American people - most of whom for a dozen years looked to the GOP to fix America, as the party had been promising to do for decades - have mostly decided Republicans are no longer to be believed.

Short of a top-to-bottom transformation in leadership, ethics, intelligence and principles, it's difficult to see a future for this bunch.

Thank you.

Whatever possessed McCain to turn the newly nominated Palin over to handlers associated with Bush? But that's the Republicans. Since 1988 the pattern has been to do just enough to arouse my enthusiasm and support, and then WHAM! I was on the verge of sending the Republicans money after the Palin nomination, but this time I held off and I'm relieved that I did. Unfortunately, this puts a bit of a cloud over Palin. We're entering a recession or--heaven forbid--worse, and Governor Hockey Mom is touring the country as a fashion plate. Is she just being a dutiful soldier following RNC orders, or does she consider the designer outfits her due? Gallows humor: you have to admit Bush has been a transformational President...

Who cares? You work out of a suitcase for 10-12 weeks, 7 days a week, and every day. You look as good at night as you did 14 hours earlier. How petty you are. The clothes are not hers to keep but will be auctioned off and make money. If the democrats and their enablers (people like you)aren't whining about this, they will some other petty thing to whine about. Give it a rest.

I have finally given up on the GOP. I am a conservative who just can't stomach the duplicity and stupidity coming out of GOP and the RNC. I have decided to vote for the Constitution Party this cycle and I suspect I have cast my last GOP vote for a very long time. I am just not willing to accept the lies and the LOTE arguments any longer. America needs a truly conservative party and I think the Constitution Party offers the best bet for the future.

And if she didn't update her clothes, the liberals would be ridiculing her and you'd be complaining about it. Get a clue.

Look I am pretty non-partisan and will take down either party for stupid things like Edwards $400 haircut which was idiotic to say the least. So the bottom line is that don’t we agree that this is NOT a petty thing. Come one here first of all who needs to spend $150K to look good. Palin is already pretty hot and they could of taken her to Wal-mart and it would not make a difference. Secondly, this is $150K less that the RNC cannot help out with the campaign where they need help with advertising. Can anyone say that $150K in clothes is a better investment than ads in say Colorado where the incumbent is getting onslaught by the DNC machine?

If the RNC really knew anything about solidifying the base they would have dressed her in blaze orange and camo from Cabela's and Gander Mountain. Probably could have done the whole shot for less than $500.

Verging on recession, I'm just wondering how much of the little people's money was spent by the Obambi campaign on just one of his styrofoam columns in Denver never mind the twelve that adorned the stage. As a female RNC contributor, I'm proud that my donations went to "dress up" Governor Palin to represent working mom's like me. I'll take investing in that type of positive image building over styrofoam columns any day. The Palins are not rich Beltway Senators like the Obambis, Bidens and McCains. They don't have Oprah and Hollywood supplying her wardrobe. I'm glad the RNC levelled the playing field for this terrific woman.

At least one of the jackets was from Valentino. So she is wearing clothing designed by a foreigner manufactured oversees. That is inappropriate. At the very least she should be wearing clothing designed by American designers who manufacture in the USA; like Oscar de la Renta.

What I don't get is this: If Gov. Palin intends to donate the clothes to charity after the election: Does she plan on dressing sloppy as VP, or does she not count on being elected to start with?

I agree with this article's end regarding the GOP -- "Short of a top-to-bottom transformation in leadership, ethics, intelligence, and principles, it's difficult to see a future for this bunch." There are now more moderate conservative Democrats in Congress than moderate and conservative Republicans. Mostly what you have among the GOP are neo-cons who don't know which way is up. Barry Goldwater is rolling in his grave.
